removed a worn 10 speed shimano cassette from this wheel, got this one new in box and installed it, noticed a weird noise shifting and upon further inspection the whole thing is loose, but i can tighten the lockring any more. is there supposed to be a spacer or something that i missed?
lockring is tight but cassette is still loose

1.85mm spacer as you probably have an HG-EV freehub.
Yes, you’re missing the 10-speed 1mm spacer. The old one might be stuck to the back of your old cassette. New-in-box 10-speed cassettes used to come with a spacer, not sure if they do now.
thanks all, sadly the spacer is long gone, i had set the bike aside for a couple weeks and cleaned up while waiting on another part. thankfully you can buy just about anything on ebay, so a new spacer is on the way.
Spacers are a couple of bucks on Amazon.. Backcountry.. rei.. Ali express.. your local bike shop will DEFINITELY HAVE THEM. Good luck OP. 🫶🏻✌🏻🙌🏻
