We live in a very hilly area, and I am thinking about converting my Brompton C-Line 6-Speed to a 44t chainring. I called my local Brompton dealer and they have 44t chainrings in stock, but not the shorter chains. I was under the impression I would need a new chain but they said its completely unnecessary. So I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with this and could chime in. Thanks for your help!

Remove two chain-links from your current chain. That’s all that is required.
On my 2speed C line I switched from 54 to 50t with the same chain length.
u can remove 2 links from your current chain. if you can’t do that due to the lack of experience or tool, any local bike shop can do that for you for a small charge.
Chain should be ok if just changing the front chainring (but shortened)
You’re better to remove two links from the chain than to put a new chain on unless your sprockets are relatively new as well, or unless you replace the sprockets with the chain. When chains are worn, the sprockets will be too – more so than chainring due to the smaller size.
