Welcome to Day 1 of the Herefordshire Hospice Trail (HHT) — a charity enduro & green laning weekend raising funds for St Michael’s Hospice.
We rode through rain, mud, rocks, roots, woods, steep climbs and sketchy trails — and this video captures every slip, fall, laugh, and full-send moment.

🏁 About the Event: Herefordshire Hospice Trail (HHT)

Organized by the Herefordshire Trail Riders Fellowship (TRF) in aid of St Michael’s Hospice (Herefordshire).

Two days of guided road-legal trail riding over green lanes and byways across the Herefordshire / Wales border

All proceeds and entry fees support the hospice’s work for patients and families in the local community.

The 2024 route ran from base at Baskerville Hall Hotel, Clyro in Hay-on-Wye area, with small groups led on route, fuel & food stops, difficult terrain, and strict code of conduct requirements.

Riders must use road-legal trail & enduro bikes (silencer, number plate, etc.) and follow the TRF’s code of conduct for green lane riding.

I’m not looking forward to this. Have that. Oh. Oh. Oh. Nicely done. [Music] Oh, that’s so sick. Now, you don’t see that every day. So, welcome. You join us on day one of HHT, which is the Heraford Hospice Trail. So, this event is a two-day trail ride split into categories of ability all over Wales and parts of England. And it is led by the Herafisher TRF who I’m with today. They facilitate it, take you on your ride. You get to camp or stay in the uh Cairo Court Hotel Baskville, which is lovely. And uh yeah, it’s just a load of fun. So come along, see what it’s like, buy yourself a ticket for next year. Oh, we’re getting twitchy already. This also coincidentally happens to be my first time on green lanes with the KTM 300 up until now. [Music] Whoa. Someone just took out a chunk of a wall. That’s terrifying. Going back on everywhere. Oh, this is a nice one. Oh, this truly is flying into the unknown now. Nice single track. I’m not awake enough for it yet. Packing my stuff early this morning to get here. And uh yeah, I think I’m just sort of waking up now. It is dark in here. Feels like nighttime at the time. [Music] That’s a banging mushroom right there. You can tell it’s autumn. There’s leaves on the ground. It’s raining and there’s sick mushrooms everywhere. Whoa. What is going on? Okay. Nice. Nice. Nice. Oh, that’s pleasant. That feels deliberate. Now, you don’t see that every day whilst riding some dirt bikes. It’s like a whole colony of bees were just exposed, which I’ve never seen before cuz this fell down years ago. That was very cool. Safe one, guys. [Music] way like a kicking donkey. What a lovely little trail. See, this one I have not ridden before. And uh this is why it does pay off to come to these events cuz uh you can track the route on your phone or your GPS so you can come back and uh you see all these lovely places you had no idea existed and you’re with a decent group, good lads and you’re just out on the bikes and there’s nothing better than that. So yeah, I do I do recommend I recommend quite highly. Oh, there’s a fence post right in the way. That’s kind. It’s a kind thing to do. We’re going down in Starkv mode. Stealthy, identifying as a humble mountain biker. It’s bad news that we’re on day one and my legs are already aching. Wait, could have gone way worse. Oh [ __ ] Oh, it’s so sick. I really want wet boots because Oh, I can never mind. I can feel the water has ingressed already. This is really shallow. It’s normally a lot deeper. [Music] I should be conserving my energy. Oh, I ended up leading the way. Oh well. [Music] Just slight pressure to set a good pace for the uh the guys that are clearly better than me. Speed can only come with focus. If you drop your focus, you need to drop your speed. So, this is dropping into London Road itself. Oh, that was my throat. Oh, [ __ ] These are always fun to come up these. Oh, I should have committed more. Oh, hello. Oh, me dead. Excuse me, but that is just complete off camber rock coated in mud. I’ve never had it that slippy before. To be fair, I normally come up this way. We’re doing it in a reverse of my preference. Stay away from the front brake. I think that’s the uh the go. So that is the first half done and now we got to climb up the other side. [Music] Nice. [Music] Cuz this last bit ain’t too bad, is it? No. They’ve Oh, look. All of those rocks have been put there. Like it used to just be the step like Yeah. My hand. Yeah, cool. There you go. Oh [ __ ] There we go. [Music] Yeah. Nice one. Thank you. I’m pleased with that way. Okay, so London Road completed. The usual Anzix were involved. This seems so much harder. Back when I was new to riding, I was on my uh L125. Come on. That’s it. Oh, so nice. Real nice riding. It’s a shame I’m so tired now. I could be having a lot more fun. It’s a bit hurting that. Woo! Christ, that’s slippy there. Was it proper slippy there? Whoa. Nearly died. Okay, focus. Focus. So, this is the lane last year where the spokes had all snapped on my rear wheel on my radio. And I had no idea. I thought the bearings were just wobbling. And at that point, I swapped bikes with a nice guy on a Kawasaki KL something 450. No idea what it was, but it was mean. I had a rip up here and Oh, it was good. It was good, man. Oh [ __ ] Cross rock central. That’s nice little moment of appreciation amongst the carnage. Oh, that’s so nice. Whoa. I’m steering and nothing is happening. [Music] [Music] So clean. Like hopping over those puddles just makes you feel like an absolute pro even though you’re not. I absolutely love this trail. I think it’s called Old Castle. I don’t know. But just goes on for miles. Really nice. I have just noticed it’s full on raining. like properly raining and getting snow. I’m having too much fun and also far too exhausted to even speak right now. I’m focusing a lot cuz it is just slidy slippy slidy. That was absolutely meant to follow. Bit more. Actually, it’s not even dry under here, is it? No. The rain got even bigger. Oh, I’m not looking forward to this. Oh, thank you. I’m so glad I got that that fairly easily. Whoa. I don’t have the energy to be falling off right now. What the [ __ ] is going on here? Yes. Oh, she’s cooking. You made it look easy back there, huh? The first bit, but the rest of it came up rather quick. [Music] You on hand, mate? I think so. Yeah, fair enough. take it off. Um, yeah, if if you don’t mind. Yeah, I’ll try it. I don’t mind at all. Oh, thank you. No worries at all. the [ __ ] rain. Wait, [Music] I’ll get that out of your way. [Music] I got it. There you go. [Applause] Can you do your Yeah, no worries. Well, I don’t know if I can. I’ll give it a go. There you go. [Applause] [Music] [Music] [ __ ] the mud mixed with these rocks. Yeah. Brutal. I’ve got an advantage there. I’ve done it like three times now. Practice. You want to push? I’ll let you ride it out there. Oh, fair enough. I start charging people now. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Oh. Oh. [Music] [Music] Yeah, I recommend the right side. [Music] This seems familiar. We must be closer to Cairo now. Energy levels ruined again. Oh [ __ ] that’s I just took real finesse to just be gentle with everything so it doesn’t slip. Thing is, it sounds like I’m moaning, but I’m absolutely loving it. Just knack it. [ __ ] [Applause] [Music] Thank you. This is what it’s all about, though. Oh, nice. You’re up. Third place. Nicely done. Sick. Yeah. Just go, go, go. [Music] Nice. Oh, nearly. Very nearly. [ __ ] this turn into a right old gate. It is. Yeah. It’s like ice skating now, isn’t it? It is a bit. This is a shout out to Ollie. You know who you are. I can’t wait to drag you out to these places when you got your license. [Music] I’m just sat down now. I don’t care. [ __ ] the technique. Oh, it stings. If you finish the day and you’re not knackered, you’ve been doing something wrong. Oh, my wrists are killing me. Absolutely killing me. I remember these being a lot worse than this. Oh [ __ ] Spoke too soon. Oh, there we are. There we go. Is that the last one? Yeah. Thank [ __ ] You’re [ __ ] nearly on reserve. Am I? Oh, Christ. I got [ __ ] tons of fuel. No, [ __ ] that. And we made it back in one piece. It’s always a good thing. That was day one of HHD. Absolutely knackered. First been class and we’re back at the campsite.

  1. Thankyou for being my TEC on this ride. The video doesn't do it justice just how hard it was at all. Definitely the most slick and slippery that route has ever been. Sick job well done.
