  1. Did you jump it somewhere?

Either way, these department store bikes aren’t really the highest quality pieces, and QC sucks in everything these days.

  2. Manufacturing defect. Bring it in. Unless the bike was fine when you parked it, and then screwed when you went to use it, then it could be vandalism from someone stomping the bike at the right angle.

  3. The crack appears to be directly opposite the valve, which suggests to me it’s where the rim is joined to itself, so it’s the weakest part of the wheel. So potentially it’s poor manufacturing rather than being caused by a violent collision.

  4. It’s a very clean break (at the joint obviously) and could be faulty. Decathlon are pretty good so I’d try taking it back and explaining what happened.

Either that or someone damaged it – good news is a basic wheel like that isn’t too expensive so it won’t be hard to get going again.

The rim failed at the joint. Because this happened after only 20 days of ownership, it’s likely a defect and thus a warranty issue. I don’t see any evidence of something impacting it from the side, as the fender stay appears undamaged. I suggest returning it to the shop you purchased it from and asking for a replacement wheel. Have the shop install the wheel so they can properly adjust the brakes and derailleur.

Looks like it’s broken where the rim is joined together. Some are simpl, stuck together with 2 Pins in this area. Seems like one of them got loose or broken. The cause for this Could be a manufacturing defekt or could have happened thru brute force from someone kicking the wheel in this spot (vandalism of a pedestrian because you blocked the sidewalk) / or a car hitting your real wheel whilst parallel parking on the shown street (unnoticed mistake).

Try your luck with an guarantee issue at decathlon. They are pretty cooperative most of the time, even if the circumstances are not clear where this damage comes from.
