In September of 2025 I was part of the media team covering the Alps Divide Ultra Cycling event. A 1000km off-road ultra bike packing event from Menton on the Mediterranean coast of France to Thonon-Les-Bains on the shores of Lac Leman. This is a series of interviews, footage and race commentary that originally went live on both my Instagram and the DotWatcher.cc Instagram to provide ongoing insight into the race.
In this clip I give an overview of day 1’s action
Right. Good afternoon everybody. Uh welcome uh to the start of the salt road. I’m here probably about halfway up the main climb uh up to the first plateau on the salt road. The weather has been pretty uh weird up here. We came up here probably half an hour ago and it was beautiful sunshine. Amazing views down over the valley and then the cloud just rolled in just after uh the lead rider Josh came through. We’ve had the first four riders through. So, Josh Shiver has about a 10-minute lead on I’m just going to check names here so I get them right. Uh he had a 10-minute lead on um Johannes Schmidt, closely followed by Fabian Worm and George Salas, uh who were very, very close together. So, Fabian in third, George in fourth. They were separated by maximum of 20 seconds. So, they’re making really really good progress. I suspect that Josh will probably be off the salt road by about midnight tonight. And uh yeah, looking to to push on onto the next set of climbs. Uh in the women’s race, Julie von Grrenan is currently in the lead. She has uh quite a commanding lead over second and third place. She’s 14th overall and probably about an hour behind uh or an hour from where I am right now. Uh second place again I’m going to check just to make sure I get this right is Stephanie Quuadranti and she is very very closely followed by Simon Eda. So tight battle there for second and third place on the road. Most of the riders or all the riders are now through Sull most of the riders uh have reached Pina and we’ll be looking to press on through as much of the salt road as they can uh this evening. So uh yeah a a tense night awakes. I will catch up with you all later.
