Hey there! im pretty new to trying out bikepacking and i was just curious if there was anybody who has tried to do a DIY cradle for their handlebar bag. i am worried it will slide down onto my front brake or wheel and clog me up on the go. if anyone also has tips otherwise to keep my handlebar bag more rigid and have shape so it doesnt sag down into the front wheel. if there is any other critiques i would love to hear them in order to optimize my bikepacking.( short backstory- i pulled this roadbike frame out of the trash and decided to build it up with a lot of free parts. only thing i paid for were the fresh tires, bars, brakes/levers, and tape, and of course bags and accessories. fun bike and gets pretty much anywhere i need it to go)

  1. If you can get some round steel stock and make your own bag support, that’s the way to go. Measure halfway on the rod, put that mark under the center of your stem, pull the ends together and bend the rod in half. When it’s properly wrapped under your stem, bend the rod ends down over the handlbars. Then you can make some little 90 degree kinks on each end to support your bag. Youll need a strap to keep the new rack from swaying. I do mine around my steerer tube.
