For the last few years at the World Championship, the middle of the week has meant the mix relay. Team time triing with a difference than the old trade team format. This has proved to be a really popular addition, bringing together the men’s and women’s pelin at the same time. Australia were the defending champions having beaten Germany by just a single second in Switzerland last year. But this time in 2025, the first African World Championships on the road. It was a 41.8 km hilly course. The men would take on one first lap. And once they were done, the lights would turn green and the women would begin. Both circuits with that crucial cobbled climb that we saw in the individual time trial. The Kimihura was meant to prove decisive. Spain were one of the early teams to get underway. a strong young lineup including Romeo, the former under23 individual time trial champion. They were over two minutes quicker than China when it came to the halfway point. Then it was the turn of their women’s team to try and back that up. They did more than that, taking almost five minutes out of the Chinese by the end of it. All eyes were on Belgium. Victor Kernad part of their men’s lineup. Some big speeds with just three riders per side of the team, but 23 seconds slower than Spain. Wasn’t looking too good when the Belgian women started and they were unable to better that finishing 2 and 1/2 minutes almost behind the Spaniards. So Spain still leading at this point. Switzerland. All eyes on them. However, Stefan Kung already said before this he wasn’t feeling great. Amos Schmidt crashed at the weekend. The Swiss men though set off to work well. They were well ahead of the Spaniards when they got in, but their strong women’s team was looking to take even more time. [Music] led by Marlon Roya, the individual world time child champion from the weekend. But she would have a hiccup having to catch up and doing so by the time they got to the cobble climb. But it was still a top time, taking more time on their Spanish opponents and moving into the lead. Then the turn of France. Young Paul Sixas continuing his learning curve. Sakov alongside him with the likes of Galba waiting in the women’s lineup. The French time was going to be very close. Sixs leading them across and just 7/10 quicker than the Swiss. Could the women then back it up? [Music] The random flags flew at the start. The crowds were brilliant again on the side of the road. Labuski. The clock was still green coming into the finale. A concerted effort over the line after that awful cobbled climb and 4.7 seconds quicker. The women taking four more seconds back. Italy though are always a threat. With France in the lead, it was looking good for a French medal, but the Aduri were trying their best to try and take that off them, but it wasn’t a good start. 14 seconds down on the French men. Could the women take them out the hole? On paper, the Italian women’s team stronger than the men perhaps. No, Felipana remember these worlds. but not happening. Well down in fact and a below par performance from the Italians in this discipline. Only good for third at this point. Former champions Germany were next up. France still leading, but they were well out of the running after their men’s performance. It would have taken a minor miracle to get back into the medals. Next up, the early signs weren’t amazing. And they were confirmed just as the team came to the finish. The clock still red and well read. Almost a minute and a half down on the leaders and already at the medal chances. So to the defending champions, Australia on their way. Jine who’ taken a medal, a silver one at that in the individual time trial. And the clock was green. Brilliantly. So, what an opportunity. A platform to build on. Australia were in the hunt to try and defend their title. It was just one single second in it last time. Broy Chapman fighting hard up the climb. Australia. The man of Sprat just about with it. The clock was ticking down just as it was in Zurich, but this time there was more wiggle room. 5.24 seconds. France knocked off the top and Australia taking glory. Back to back indeed. And celebrating together. The whole squad doing the business. Matthews, Platt, Vine, Chapman, Sprat and Wilson happened. Congratulations team Australia for another world title. First of all, a word with you Amanda. Take us through that final stress. So eventful. Did you hear the shouting? Did you hear the speaker? Uh yeah, I knew like from the cobblewood climb on it was just going to be like hell. Just push through, push through. And Brody was so strong in that last part and I knew I just had to hold the wheel and it was going to be close. And I could hear YDR director just screaming to sprint, sprint, sprint. And um uh we knew it was close, but just so special. It’s my first time doing the nation’s team’s time trial and just incredible to pull it off with a team. It makes it just even more special to be again a world champion. Yeah, exactly. I know the guys won the world title last year and I’m I’m really proud to be here this year. So yeah, very very happy. Michael, there was no way you were going to give that title up uh here in uh in Kgali. Yeah, it’s not often we get a chance to to ride with other Aussies like this in a full Aussie event. So, I think um we had full focus for this after we won last year. So, just being back with a team, mixing it with the girls the last few days and just putting it together today was just the cherry on top of the cake. It was really a dream team, this Australian team. Um everything worked perfectly. Um yeah, I would say as perfect as it could. I mean, uh we only arrived a couple of days ago. We only saw the course for the first time yesterday. didn’t even actually do any paceel lining on it to to to really test it. But we know I mean the two guys were top 10 in the individual time trial. The girls also had amazing time trial team. So I just had to hang on and do the best I could with the ability that I had in my legs. And um yeah, today it worked out. Enjoy the podium. Thank you very much. Thanks. Two years of glory in a row. Australia beating France by 5.2 seconds. Switzerland at 10 seconds on the podium. Nobody else came close. Italy over a minute down. Germany in fifth and that early strong Spanish dart translating just across French. All about Australia who advance even fairer than ever team time trial glory. [Music]

who came up with mixed tts? absolutely horrible idea
Where was remco??
Crazy that France has another country as a sponsor on their kit
Glad I'm not there.
Really bad luck for the Swiss. They would have had a real chance.
Well done Team Australia 🎉
Tnt sports no airtime for african teams ?
Rachael Gunn, now that’s how you represent Australia. Shoeys all round – congrats champs.
Well done Aussies.
Today the podium was much better than the rest of the field.
When do they get to wear their rainbow jerseys, in what events throughout the year can they wear it??
I'm very astonished that neither team Australia nor team France realized what an effect this defect of Marlen Reusser had on the race. Maybe this defect cost more than the 10 seconds … Even Marlen Reusser couldn't tell how much team Switzerland lost because of her defect (losing force in catching up and the other two also losing force because they couldn't as much recover as with Marlen in the lead)!
Aussie Aussie Aussie 👏👏👏🏆🥇🇦🇺
Aussiiiiiiie!
What a beautiful village. Almost looks like Tusacny.
Such a great ride from the Aussies!

What is making this race hard , before it starts I was thinking that it would be very easy for top cyclist but seeing them suffer like that is shocking me please try to explain it to me 🙏🙏

The fans in rawanda are great
Love this event, underrated
Spratty, Bling, & co for the win! Love it.
The titel and the medals in this event mean NOTHING! Especially as no nation uses all their best riders and some of the top nations don't even bother to get a team to the start.
Rwanda iwacu .Mukomereze aho
I thought the Aussies might struggle without Grace Brown, but they were amazing.
Amazing there was only 10 secs between 1st and 3rd
Go you good things !!! Aussie, Aussie, Aussie 💪💪 Well done team, amazing effort.
