Rode my road bike to one of Europe’s biggest holes. 🚴‍♂️

From Düsseldorf’s city streets to the Garzweiler coal mine, the ride was flat, fast, and totally surreal. Perfect pavement, wide horizons, and then suddenly—a gigantic pit in the earth. Big hole, tiny me.

[Music] Good morning, YouTube. I’m Kenji, a Japanese cyclist still trying to survive in Germany. Today, I’m starting from Dudolf. Normally, cyclists ride along the beautiful Rain, but not me for today. Today’s destination is not a castle, not a cathedral, a hole. Yes, you heard it right. A hole. A gigantic hole. [Music] Usually cycling in Europe means castles and wine yards, but not today. It’s all about windmills and structures. Honestly though, the rolls are super smooth, even if my legs are not [Music] Y and suddenly The land just disappeared. Oh my god. Or oh my Buddha. Back in Japan, the biggest hole I’ve ever seen was maybe a ramen bowl. But this this is like Pokémon took a bite out of the earth. They call that the machine bucket wheel excavator, but it looks like a gun weapon ready to fight Godzilla. Standing here, I feel so tiny. The scale is unreal. It’s beautiful in a brutal way. German is famous for beer, sausage, and football, but it’s also about energy and heavy industry. And you can really see the cost carve into the lands. Not your usual cycling destination, right? But that’s why I came here. And I’m eating this my favorite chocolate bar cliff. Eating cliff on the edge of the cliff of the earth. Do you know what this is? The actual shovel of the excavator over there. Like in Japan, we say size doesn’t matter, but looking at this, maybe it does. All right, let’s say Sonada to this view and let’s go back to Dudolf. The mine was huge, but now my legs feel like a manfield, too. Next time, maybe I’ll just simply go to a vegan instead, just to have a compai. From the city to the countryside to the end of the earth, all in one day by bike. As a Japanese cyclist in Europe, I never know what I will find. And honestly, that’s the best part. Where should I write next? Castles, mountains, maybe other giant hole. Let me know in the comments. Until next time, ride safe and see you on the road. [Music]
