  1. It’s so far beyond cooked. Once the straps and padding have deteriorated like that the helmet’s not doing anyone any good.

  2. Going to be honest. No way in hell would I ever use an older used helmet from someone else. If I knew 100% it’s usage history, maybe. Looks like a Flux helmet and probably not MIPS. Others may disagree but I feel like you’d be better off from a safety standpoint getting a reasonable cost MIPS helmet. Lot of good helmets under $100 with an excellent rating.

Replacement time unfortunately. Too old, dont know how its been looked after, plus I you can get a helmet with MIPS now.

  4. The general recommendation is to replace your helmet every 5 to 10 years (unless otherwise stated by the manufacturer). And, always replace a crashed helmet.

    This is an interesting read

It’s a scientific study showing no reduction in protection on any helmets they tested, spanning an age range of 2-20 years.

  5. Don’t even think twice and wear that. Buy a new one. You cannot put a price on your life and brain safety. I’ve seen plenty of bad outcomes responding to calls. It’s not worth being a vegetable.

  6. This helmet is close to 15 years old. I know this because I bought the same one around 2010. Your best option is to buy a new one.

You can get a quality MIPS helmet for less than $100.
