After almost 20yrs of adventures it finally failed. Cracked clean through.
It was my touring bike, and still carried a 2 people chariot from time to time.
I'm not sure about the repair, it's steel so easy to weld, but will the frame break somewhere else soon?
The groupset is a 105 from 2007.
If I scrap the bike, what is worth to saving beyond the wheels?
I know basic bike mechanic, but not enough to rebuild something else on my own.
What do you think?
Thank you
Edit: thanks, my decision to not repair it was almost done, now it is. For the components, anything in particular that's more valuable than the rest?
The shifters/rear derailleur still worked ok but it's a 3×9 set up, would you update it?
Any idea how many hours we're talking about for a shop mechanic to take it apart?

That frame is toast. RIP.
New bike time!
If you like the components and they still work well they should be very easy to swap over to a new frame. IMO this kind of failure is indicative of overloading your frame, so you might think of getting something more heavy duty if you’re loading it up frequently.
It can’t be welded as it is but if you find a good framebuilder they can replace the tube however the cost of having it done and the complete frame repaint it would need after are probably several times what it would cost to just buy a new frame
If it has great sentimental value, which is what i read from your post, I would strip it down completely and hang it on the garage wall. Add a laminated note detailing significant events.
Salvage all the other components and the wheels. It’s great to have spare parts.
Get a new frame that bike is cooked 🤣
Don’t.
Disassemble, and hang it on the wall. Let your friend rest.
Get a new frame.
“He’s dead, Jim.”
Gaffers tape. And if it does not hold up, then replace frame.
Only thing you can do.
Hey dont try to weld it, you can’t guarantee it will hold. Doesn’t matter how much you love the bike (I know you do), i think its time to give it a rest and change bikes.

Ductape?
Treat yourself to a new bike!
If you live near a bike coop, you could find a comparable frame and swap parts. If you want to get ambitious, you could try repairing it with a sleeve, but that is assuming you can weld steel that thin.
Find a comparable frame first, then maybe see how much it is to get this one re welded and have a good spare
Jamis has a lifetime warranty on most frames. You must be the original owner, and other terms apply.

It is odd that it broke in that spot ?
new frame day
Its probably rusted inside and not worth repairing.
Make a bong out of it.
Moment of silence
Replace, that’s cooked.
Send it

that depends can you weld?
This is a metal frame so it is completely possible to replace a down tube. It can be difficult and depends wholly on your skill and tools available but it can be done.
How to:
Remove the weld with a triangle file. (my preferred method)
Cut a new piece of the appropriate material to the correct size and shape.
Fit the new down tube tack weld it in place when you’re sure its perfect weld it in.
clean up the area and paint.
If you’re concerned about temper? use a hardness testing file to determine if the temper is correct.
