I had previously posted about ways to make the Quik Rack less prone to theft and/or minimize the need to remove. I contacted 1Up to discuss my modifications and see if they would do so for me. Since they weren’t interested in making these changes (although they were supportive) for me, I went ahead and did them myself.
While the modifications cost me $200 (fabricating and anodizing), 1UP could easily implement these changes with little additional cost.
The benefits so far:
– Lock no longer vibrates causing a rattle
– Lock no longer scrapes over speed bumps or backing down an incline
– Can’t access lock to grind, sawzall or hammer off without obvious damage to rack
– Security Allen key still usable without interference
Some will say this is overkill however to me it is better than having to replace the entire rack. At a minimum a thief would likely move on to another vehicle given the potential difficulty of trying to gain access to mine.

This is an awesome mod. I have the 1.25 quick rack and bent the lock pin on a steep driveway. Now I’m super paranoid about theft so I’m looking for a ulock to secure the rack to the hitch.
Did you just have a local shop do the work?
Very clever. I broke the lower portion of my first security lock off and don’t know how long I drove around with it just sitting in there 😂
