Question:
I’m looking for an eMTB motor + battery that offer suitable performances for heavy riders (i.e., 200+ lbs).

I’m eyeing the Bosch Performance Line CX motor based on the numerous reviews that I’ve read, but I’m at a complete loss when it comes to battery capacity, motor power and torque.

For example:

  • What minimum torque would be considered suitable for a 220 lbs rider? 50, 60, 100 Nm?
  • What battery capacity would provide a 220 lbs rider with enough juice for a 5-6 hour day of riding for example? Is under 500 Wh enough or you’d want a full-support battery (anything above 700 Wh)?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Context:
So I’m an experienced MTBer and mostly ride bike park (let’s say 80% lift-accessed resorts and 20% enduro locations). After a full season of convincing myself that I don’t need/want an eMTB, I’m done: I’m now actively in the shopping process as end of season deals approach.

My group and I just spent 3 days at a crazy nice enduro spot with lots of bike park style trails with sick features. The climb wasn’t that technical and I’m not an especially bad climber; it was simply a long, steady and boring climb. After we concluded our stay, I couldn’t help but feeling like I had not ridden my bike even remotely enough for me to feel satisfied with my experience.

During those days, we often encoutered the same riders and A LOT of them were justifyingly on eMTBs. Some of them could most likely log at least twice as many laps as our group did in a day as we saw them overtake us numerous times.

That’s when I dediced that getting an eMTB was an investment and to convince myself to get one. I’m tired of travelling 2-3 hours each way to a location where I end up feeling like I didn’t ride all that much as to me, it’s all about the descent and the climb is only a tax to pay to access the way down.
