Universal Studios is coming to Bedford, bringing up to 55,000 visitors a day β€” but can the A421, M1 Junction 13, and Black Cat roundabout handle the traffic? Universal Studios is coming to Bedford, but with 55,000 people coming on a busy day and 60% of those coming by road, how will the local roads cope? Well, Universal’s plan is to build a dedicated slip road off the A421. The A421 connects with junction 13 of the M1 on the west side and the Black Cap roundabout on the A1M on the other end. But will that be enough? Local residents and the council have voiced concerns that if any of those roads were to be affected by a unexpected event causing some traffic, then some of the theme park traffic might be diverted onto smaller local roads. Now, obviously, this site wasn’t always farmland. It did used to be the world’s largest brick works, which means the area is not a stranger to a lot of traffic, particularly construction and HGV traffic. But what do you think? Do you think the plans laid out are enough? Do you think Universal have gone above and beyond already to satisfy the needs of their patrons and local residents? Let me know in the comments. 1. I get sick of hearing of the moaning on "could happens" and "what if's". I think universal studios have done the right thing by adding a dedicated junction, and this is more than enough.

One minute everyone was all for Universal studios, next minute there are now complaining about potential traffic problems. I worry about the extra noise of traffic on the A421 and no sound proof fencing near my property but it's a small thing, and IF it does cause a problem I will just contact the highway agency as it happens.

  2. Great video, keep them coming. Is it clear from the plans whether the new A421 junction will also link with the old A421(woburn road) for local access?
