After hopping on the long distance randonnering pacline, I realized I was also looking for something light, fast, and more importantly, super fun to ride. Ended up settling on building up a new road logic frame with rim brakes. I thought about getting the disc brake model, but the simplicity and 40 some years of iterative design from the mind of someone like Tom Ritchey led me to believe that this would be right decision.
Went with a full 2×11 ultegra group set paired with a Magene power meter crank (I like data.) moved these velocity a23’s I built up over the summer from my Bridgestone (sold to a friend) onto this bike finishing kit is all ritchey classic level (nice and silvery) with some NOS classic evocurve bars wrapped with some brooks leather bar tape that’s been sitting in my parts bin for the better part of a year. Please ignore the non slammed stem (I intend to fit it properly after I test various amounts of seat to bar drop)
The bike rides like a dream. Before building this bike I thought some people were waxing poetic when they talked about the “Ritchey Magic” and now I get it. Lateral stiffness is really great while also being vertically compliant, even with an alloy seatpost, stem and bars. It’s really fun to climb with, even at low cadence. Descents feel planted, and you can really throw the bike into corners at speed. The rim brakes are fantastic and I have no intention to ride this bike willingly in the rain. The bike feels fast, and is fast. Did a 115 mile ride with about 5k of climbing in the first half and found even with the race geo it was comfortable enough to ride on all day.

What’s the front fork clearance? Mine tops out at 28 and I wouldn’t mind one that can fit 32mm tires.

Beautiful. How do you like the direct mount brakes?
