From the start line in Bern to the epic finish in Zermatt – this was 245 km and 5,500 meters of climbing through the Swiss Alps. A true test of endurance, teamwork, and mindset. Come along behind the scenes of my Chasing Cancellara experience – the highs, the lows, and everything in between.

I’m so glad you’re here. ENJOY!

Okay, welcome to the vlog, guys. I am in Switzerland because tomorrow I will be cycling one of Europe’s toughest amateur races right here from burn to cement. It’s called Chasing Canala. It’s 275 km, 5 a half thousand meters of elevation in one day. So, I’m going to bring you guys along for an exciting weekend. Now we’re headed off to BMC to pick up our bikes and then we will be hopefully getting a bit of a factory tour as well. I’d love to see their base and then I’m going to get ready for the race because the start time is tomorrow or actually tonight at 3:00 a.m. So I’m not going to be getting a lot of sleep later. So, yeah. Hope you’re ready for it and uh let’s go. Hey. Hi. Okay. You ready for it? And the bike. Marta, can you see your bike? Wow. Beautiful. All black. You will be able to see me the whole day because mine is red. I’ve always wanted a red bike. Now you should have the red helmet. I need a red helmet. Dreams do come true. Ready for it. Now it’s lunch time and look at the view from the restaurant. Now we’re fixing the bikes. Got my saddle on. Now I just got to go test it. I’m testing out the bike now. Make sure that everything is working before tomorrow. Most important thing before Yeah, [Laughter] it’s so far really good. I’m confident it’s going to be a good day tomorrow. Hi. Now we are going to the supermarket to pick up the most important thing before a race and that’s okay. And snacks and drinks cuz it’s [ __ ] hot. But uh let’s go. Okay. I just came home from picking up the number. It’s currently around 7:30. We have to get up around 1:30, so I’m not going to get a lot of hours of sleep, but I know that’s kind of a part of it. So, we just bought some pasta salad at a local supermarket. We bought a lot of snacks, all different kinds of snacks for the fight tomorrow. Then I’m gonna prep my bike, which is right over here behind me. I’m gonna pack my suitcase because we are going to a new hotel at the end destination for tomorrow evening. So, I got quite a lot of stuff I need to do now and hopefully I can do it quickly so I can get some sleep. So, yeah. Okay, that was it. Delicious. Delicious. And good morning. It is currently 0220 and we are headed to the start line. I managed to sleep for an hour. So, not a lot of sleep, but um we’re feeling okay and getting very excited. And now we’re at the starting line. So, in around 20 to 30 minutes, we will be starting in there. Are we awake? Almost. I hope. Yeah, we’re excited. You have a very beautiful and a very beautiful lady. Wow, you look like the fish, you know, from under the sea. We’re off. We have around five climbs today. Had a bit of a rough start. My stomach was not really on my side. We’re going to take it easy because we just really want to have a good time and complete this race. That’s more than enough. Sun’s about to rise. Sunrise. Wow. So when you ride these races, you practically have to eat all the time. You don’t never feel like it, but it’s what’s going to keep you going. So, uh, we’re approaching the third climb. Uh we’ve got around 152 km to go. We’ve done 123. So almost halfway. I’m not feeling super to be honest. The start and my stomach just has put some strain on my body that does need to be there. But I am eating all the time. So I I hope that’s going to get me across the finish line. And the sun’s out for sure. And it’s only 8:41. [ __ ] It’s 30° and we’ve got 16 km of climbing left. This is not the usual climate for a Scandinavian lightning. Okay, we are almost at the top of the CL pass. It’s really hot, but uh we’ve almost climbed 2,000 mters of elevation. Okay, it’s tough to talk with elevation. There’s not a lot of air up here, but look at this view. How are we feeling? Yes. 10 km to go and I am practically not alive anymore. [Music] We’re back home. We finished and just checked into our hotel room. Now I am going to take a shower, lay right here, and then I’m going to update you on the other side, maybe tomorrow. But we’re safe and we did it. And I guess that’s uh good morning. So I just woke up, slept I think around 11 hours, which was crucial for my health. I think I was so dead yesterday. I couldn’t function. So I’m feeling a lot better now. Legs are sore, but not too sore. Actually, my overall body energy level is just low. So, I know the best thing for me is just to get up and out and get some blood flow into my system cuz then I feel like everything just functions better. So, I’m walking around in Serat right now and it’s one of the most beautiful cities. I mean, everything is so clean here. I think that’s gonna be my first observation. Anyways, um the race went really well. Martin and I, we um somehow managed to find a flow and I was struggling a bit for the first I think 100k. I think you can probably tell that from the video footage I took. I had some issues and then I think around 120 it was really tough. So I was down laying on the ground but then I got some medicine and then we started the climb for the Grimsel Pass which was by far one of the toughest climbs I have ever done. Um it’s not my longest climb. I’ve done the Galip before, but it was a tough one. So, uh, I was suffering cuz it was really hot and that really can kill you a lot on climbs like that. Then we had 100k on the other side of that and that’s where the sun hit. I think this was around 2 or 3 p.m. and the sun was really high on the sky. So, we started to feel it and suddenly I was feeling really dizzy. So, we had to stop. I had to lay down again. I’ll put a picture in here of that. Um, I was just dehydrated and overheated. That was actually just the issue. So, at least the last 20k was hard. And then we came to the finish line and um yeah, once we arrived at the finish line, we got some food correctly and was told that we won. We won the couples category. I did not expect that. So um so what a way to finish that race and thank you so much to Chasing Canelada for making this possible. It was a so well organized event. Now I am going to walk a bit around this beautiful city, go get some breakfast and then I’ll take you guys along. Ciao. I need to do new stuff. And that is Matahorn. Maybe guess what now, guys. Okay, fans. Calm down. Woohoo. No. Okay. [Music] And uh now we’re checking out and heading to Zurich to spend the last night in Switzerland before we fly tomorrow around lunchtime. So bye sir Matt from now you have been amazing. Wow. Beautiful. Okay. But um now I’m going to get a quick shower and uh then I’m going to go meet Martha and we’re going to have some late dinner. This is going to conclude the vlog. And this is our feast for tonight. [Music]

  1. Young cyclists are amazing. Within 10 miles, my butt hurts, at least one wrist will start hurting, my left hand will frequently go numb, my neck starts to ache and on an on. You guys ride long distant on a bike as comfortably as I sit in a recliner for hours. Riding over 35 years and bike fit is as good as it's going to get lol but still can't handle long distance. You are amazing.
