FLYING WITH A BICYCLE – I remember how anxious I was to fly with my bike for the first time. So I put together a video that covers everything from booking, to boxing, to boarding. I hope some find it helpful!

It’s a long time since I’ve flown with a bicycle from Australia on an international flight. All of my touring now is done locally and the two major airlines in Australia usually provide bike boxes at a price. They are larger than the normal bike shop used box. This makes it easier to put a bike with front and rear racks into the box. I normally get two boxes and put my panniers and camping gear into a kid’s bike sized second box which I normally get from a bike shop. As my load is in excess of their normal luggage limits, it is necessary to purchase an additional luggage allowance, and I carry one of my large panniers as cabin luggage. This may not work overseas but it certainly does within Australia.

Not to immediately slate your effort, but I really don’t unserstand how you can promote flying to anyone in this day and age.
Even if cyclists didn’t love the outdoors and weren’t dependent on the weather, they still need to eat…
It’s not easy, but some people like to cycle to the airport with a box and pack there:
