My brother, who helps with a co-op, has been trying to get me to buy an ATB for a while. I have a trek Elance that I built up for city riding, but doesn't do single track with roots very well.
Enter this rock crusher I found on FB marketplace while I'm camping at Cook Forest. Drove the hour or so to go look at it, felt bad giving the guy 25 so I made it an even 30. Everything works, more or less, but it really could use a tune up. Definitely want to figure out how to get the front wheel as a QR and change the brakes, but beyond that I probably will leave it alone. The point is that it was cheap, and I have a bad habit of letting scope creep move the decimal over on spending.

I bet that thing weighs a metric tonne.
I would suggest making peace with running it without QR wheels, it will still serve you well! But if that’s something your heart is set on, it would be easier to swap the wheels than to convert them, especially if your brother works at a coop. Additionally this rigid frame will still be a difficult choice for techy, rooted single tracks. It would surely roll them but it will be a rough ride without suspension
clean and kinda digging those massive caliper brakes
This thing is hot as hell, and so is that price
Love the colour and the metal dork disk. These are kinda difficult to come by in my area.
And people still buy $1,000 plus bikes for some reason
