Wheel was sounding a little rough so I took it apart to clean, and re-grease. I noticed this damage on one of the cone screws. It is cooked, could I maybe like file it smooth idk? Any ideas what could have caused this damage?
It’s for a bike I’m going to sell.

Yes, that should be replaced. The shop I worked at carried them. There are many sizes. There is no way to fix that other than replacing it. Good luck!
Unfortunately. Yes their past due. You will never get the hub adjusted just right. It will either be too loose or tight. You need new cones. Finding the exact cones can be a challenge if the hubs are generic. The problem will be getting the new cones to line up with the hub dust cap.
Check Wheels MFG, and measure them…they might not have the exact cone but they might have another with the same or similar specs.
This damage actually looks much lower on the cone than the bearings should normally run, so I would be surprised if you could actually feel it if the bearings were correctly adjusted.
All those parts look dry as a bone. Did you clean them in a sonic bath?
Those are some very deep pits.
If your bearings lost the sheen and have a rather dull gray look to them those need replacing also.
And if you do replace the bearings on one side do both side sides because you don’t wanna get them mixed together since they are now slightly different sizes.
Lastly, if the hub cups have started to pit or at least now have unequal glazing, they might be reusable, but towards the end of their life. If that’s the case, they are going to be very hard to get the bearing free play adjusted perfectly.
