We’ve got clear roots there. [Music] I have just parked up in EM car park or IM in Darabasha, the plague village. So today I’m going to do a mountain bike ride. It’s about 28 kilometers involves three little loops. Um there is a little bit of a technical uh descent on one of them, but you know, I’ll just take it easy because I’m a I’m a Bang average uh mountain biker at best. Wait. So yeah, I’ll just take it easy. and um see how we get on. Well, you won’t believe this. I’ve just parked up in the village of E. It was nice and sunshiny. Lovely. Um as soon as uh soon as I get on my bike, it’s windy storm’s coming in. Big black clouds over the hills. Unbelievable. Anyhow, we’re out now. So, we’re going to go for it. Oh my god, it’s blowing an absolute gale. That car down a bit. So we’re just on this little country lane just coming outside E. I think it’s called Tideswell Lane. So we’ve just come off Taiw Lane, turn right, and we’re just going down Brad Bradshaw Lane heading back towards the hills. So just coming to the center of uh Fulo now. That’s nice pub. The Bald Head. Been in there before. All right. So I think it’s quick left and then right. Turning right down here towards Britain. Well, I hope I wasn’t tempting fate taking my jacket off, but it’s looking nice up there. Probably about 13 14Β° in the valley. Bit windy though. Wow, look at this place. Absolutely stunning. I can see the hill over there that I’m going to go over. Don’t know if you can see that in the camera. That’s looking pretty steep. I think it must be about 3 years since I did this last. So, yeah, was excited about getting out again, having another go. But it’s just going to start a climb now. So maybe I should have uh held back with my excitement cuz that was looking pretty steep up there. This is getting uh getting tough now. Good job. I’m not in a rush. Bloody hell. This is hard. Wow. Oh, this is still going. I’m sure the I’m sure the views are going to be worth it when we get to the top. But bloody hell, this is hard graft. God, we’re not there yet. But it’s probably just as well I haven’t got a heart monitor because my heart is pounding out my chest. Oh Jesus. Right, we’re just coming to the barrel in now. Breton. I think we’re going to get some great views here though. Let’s have a quick look at this. Look at that. Absolutely beautiful. Well, managed to do a grand total of 5.2 kilometers and it feels like about 30 if you were to do this on a road, but absolutely amazing views now. Definitely worth it. Right. So, this tarmac now giving wave to what looks like a brideway byway. It is open to all traffic. I wanted to come down here with a car though. I’ve really forgotten what a brilliant track this was. And I hope I’m not tempting fate, but it is really beautiful. Absolutely amazing views over there as well. So this is called Sir William Hill Road. I’m not sure who Sir William Hill was. Anybody know? Let me know. There he went then. Wow. But views up here. Absolutely amazing. Got radio mast on the top there. Wow. bit of road on the road now. Oh, that’s windy. Right. So, we’re just coming off that road now and we’re just taking this hair pin uh down this dirt track and I think that’s taken us back into E. We’ve just completed the first loop and that was about just under 11 kilometers. So, just come back into the car park at E having a little bit to eat before I set off and do the next loop. Right, it seems to have uh brightened up a bit. Start of loop two then just going through E now. Well, I spoke too soon and it’s absolutely peanut brown again. This weather’s absolutely crazy. Right, we’ve just turned off the main road going to on Riley Lane. I think that’s where that um all those uh that family was buried, isn’t it? The Riley graves is up here. It’s another steep one. Yeah, I think I can see the graves over there now. Visitors are requested to treat this with burial place with reverence as it should be. I just love it from here. Oh, that is so sad. The whole family just buried there. Such a sad tragic um place really in in such a beautiful setting. What contrast. From here, we’re going to head down this road, turn right, get into Stony Middleton, and then we’re going to head up onto those tops somewhere. So, we got a bit more climbing to do. There’s a nice bit of a dappled light again. Wait, we’ve got three roots there. Oh, this is nice. But there are some tree roots and rocks to be careful of. Yeah, I think this is might the bumpy bit. We’ll see. Yeah. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Yeah, this is a the difficult bit that was uh remembering from last time. Oh god, I’m getting bits of here as well. Whoa. Wait. [Music] [Music] So, whoever put this route together is obviously a lot better better mountain biker than I am, that’s for sure. Uh, we just take it easy. I bet these other guys come flying down here, don’t they? Dual suspension and all that. Whoa. [Music] Bit more difficult than Sherwood Pines’s red route. I think this I managed to survive that bit, but that wasn’t easy. Not for me anyhow. But more experienced uh mountain bikers would absolutely fly down that. I’m sure sure they would. But I did it very slowly, but I did it. Um we just sent to Stony Middleton now. So we’re going to go on the tops for our third loop. So third and final loop. Here we go. All right. So, we just come off that very busy uh road uh through Storing Middleton and we’re on I think it’s a concession uh footpath or bridal way now. So, the tarmac’s disappearing now and it’s uh getting more of a bumpy stony path. All right, starting to get steeper and steeper now. Oh my god, this is going for absolutely forever. It’s a beast this p this bridal way. Honestly, that’s a that’s a hell of a climb. That is I guess let’s not call the peak district for nothing. Right, we’ve just come to a bridal way now. Getting on to the tops. Views are starting to open up a bit. I can see something big and black in that path. I hope that’s a a sheep, not a bull, but it’s looking like a bull to me. That Yeah. Brilliant. The bulls right in the middle of the path. Are you actually serious? Come on. Well, they let me pass uh without too much force. They just seem more interested in chewing and relaxing. I’m not even sure if this is a still active quarry or not. There’s stone everywhere, but I don’t know why that gate’s left right open. I’d love to go down there, but it’ be really dangerous. Who knows? What would Tom Cruz do? As tempting as it is to go down there, I’m not even sure whether you’re allowed to be in here or not. So, better not break the law. I mean, it might it might be one of these quaries that’s been purchased by like some climbing society or something like that, but I’m not sure. So, I better check that out before I come in here. Brilliant, though. Looks awesome. Look at that. Heat. Heat. [Music] All [Music] right, back in now. Well, it’s nearly 6:00. I’ve just got back um from that ride. I started about 12:00, so I’ve been out about 6 hours. I stopped a lot. I stopped a lot of the time and came back here for lunch and that, but it’s been Oh, it’s been a brilliant, brilliant uh mountain bike ride. I really enjoyed it. I don’t think I’ll win any uh King of the Mountains for the speed I went, but I really enjoyed those three loops around Ian. So, I’ll put a link to my route uh my Strava route in the pin comments and if anybody wants to follow that um then yeah, please do. It’s brilliant. It’s also on commute as well, I think. Right, thank you very much. Until next time. [Applause] [Music]
