The Nivolet Pass (Colle del Nivolet) is quite possibly the most beautiful alpine riding road in Europe, if not the world.

It is little wonder this ‘no through – dead end’ road was used for the 1969 cliffhanger ending of ‘The Italian Job’ as it’s location is not one you simply ‘pass by’ and would have afforded the film crew ample time to work. It requires a substantial and committed two days of anyone’s itinerary and after finding the perfect hotel (Grand Hotel Cersole) in Ceresole Reale we road this perfect ribbon of tarmac which instantly put many other more famous (or infamous) Italian roads into relegation.

Serviced by a seasonal hotel/restaurant (Refuge Savoie) at the point where public vehicles are stopped from travelling any further this is a ‘must ride’ for any biker – and we were left in no doubt that the only reason riders don’t feature more here, is that it is still relatively unknown. Certainly our hosts at the hotel where we staying had never heard of the Italian Job movie, or surprisingly, Michael Caine either. Oh well.

Anyway. Enjoy a short clip of our Nivolet day. More from that amazing pass will feature on the longer episode so ‘like & subscribe’
