Skidded out at around 40km/h+ this evening after hitting something (presumably a rock in the bicycle gutter). Body took almost all of the impact and I got to enjoy what friction and pavement does to skin.

Only damage to the bike is my handlebar got scratched up pretty badly (Canyon CP30) and that area pictured is basically bare carbon lol. A coin test in the damaged area yields a positive result. Anything else I should be checking or is this one for the bin?

Yuck! Sorry you had an off. That looks like it ground through a couple of layers of carbon – I wouldn’t feel safe using it again. Heal fast!

  2. I’d ride them and see if there is any extra flex to them. If they seem to work as usual then I’d probably re-tape and keep using them.

  3. I can’t believe people are recommending riding them. Look, I have a pretty high risk tolerance for bikes, but this is beyond what any reasonable person would co sidereal safe. Bars are cheap. Replace with cheap off the shelf aluminum to ride on Friday and order new carbon ones for later

as a long time mechanic please do not ride these. these fall into the it may be fine or they may snap and cost you a new face category. please destroy these and get new.
