I'm new to commuting via bike and wanted to share my ride today. I bought this bike for $100 with the intention of using it for short trips close to home (grocery store, pharmacy, etc.) and to get a little exercise at the same time. Today I rode almost 8 miles, one stop include a bike shop to get the front and rear derailers adjusted. My legs felt a little bit like Jell-O when I got home, but overall I feel good!

Nice! keep it up and it will literally get noticeably easier unless you keep going faster lol. Keep up with the simple stuff like tires and basic maintenance like the derailleurs you just had adjusted and you will have many worry free miles.
If you are up to it new brake pads and a cable set are inexpensive things that can make a 10 year old bike feel newish again! I just fixed up one of my old road bikes from early the 2000s. I added a flat bar which needed new levers and shifters (eBay) new brake and shift cables and brake pads of course. Like new again!
