Not even 30 mins out after I got my bike back I ran into a nail, I saw it and knew I didn’t have any sealant so I tried to bike back because the air leak wasn’t bad. Moments later it was clunking and I realized the tire was completely deflated and I was hammering the nail into my carbon wheel.

I’m new to tire repair so I was wondering if my wheel here is ok? Is my tire Ok? Is this just a case of me putting on some tubeless tape and new sealant and I’m off and running again?

My bike is a 2023 trek domane sl6 and i think the wheels are the bontrager paradigm comp 25

Thank you!

  1. Not a carbon wheel. You could replace the rim strip and it would hold air fine, but I would be worried about the integrity of the wheel. Your best option would be to replace it. On the bright side, Paradigm comp wheels aren’t super expensive.

  2. Uff, that’s unfortunate man. Looks like your rim got nailed. I assume most would say don’t ride it unfortunately 🙁

  3. IMO it is done unfortunately, remove the rim tape to inspect. Maybe a trek dealer can get you a deal on a replacement rim. Would hate for a rim to fail knowing it could have been prevented. Good luck.
