Not sure if my description post is visible, but this is what I said:

β€œΒ Looking to buy my first bike (in California). Price was originally $600 and seller recently dropped it to $300. Also, the frame is 57cm but I am only 5’10”. At what point is a frame size too big for me?”

  2. Scattante was the “house brand” for Performance bike for many years. It’s widely considered a decent quality “value brand”. Nothing innovative, they tended to carry older styles and tech longer/later than marquee brand, but it was always good quality, better specced than an equivalent bike from Specialized, Trek, Cannondale, etc.

This Bike looks to have Ultegra 6600 10 speed group. This is a very nice group with great durability and shifting feel. Lots of folks felt the updated 6700 was a downgrade in shifting. The exterior shift cables make it look dated, though.

The carbon seat stays are nice, they really do help reduce road vibration. This style of frame was only popular from ~2006-2010. Once offshore production of carbon frames really ramped up, it was cheaper to make a whole carbon “monocoque” frame than it was to make these “composite” frames with bonded alu and carbon.

57cm is just barely in range for a 5’10” rider (if you’re truly 5’10 and that’s not a “Tinder” height). You’d probably want to install a zero setback seat post and swap a shorter stem, but bike fit is highly individual and depends on your proportions.

Road bikes are popular in my market (pricing pretty close to metros in CA) and $300 would be a very good price. I recently sold a fully sorted Specialized Secteur Comp (105 5600 10-speed group with carbon seat stays) for $365.

r/whichbike has a lot of lowballers, I’d take their recommendations with a grain of salt. An afternoon of scrolling through marketplace can give you a better idea of pricing than randos on the internet.

Lower the seat and ride it. That will quickly tell you if it’s too big. As for whether it’s worth $300, the question is budget and can you get another one now for $200 as some have said? If you pass on it, you may not find a comparable ride any time soon. Beautiful bike.
