Hi guys, I'm just getting back into biking again. I sold my old 2011 Windsor Fens from bikes direct back in 2018. Since then, I've been interested in biking for health and wanted to return to the hobby/sport. I have not been in the loop with current bike tech and everything is now pricing me out. Therefore, I'm looking at older used bikes.

For reference, I'm estimated frame size 51/52cm. 5'6". A casual 50-100miles a week to and from the coast.

Would this be a good bike to get back into?

  1. That frame looks almost like an XS. I’d be suprised if it was even 50cm, probably closer to 48cm.

Make sure it has 700c wheels and not the 650c that was briefly popular for triathlon/time trial and shorter bikes. 650c is very limited in tire choice and 650c frames are worth way less. Still a good value for triathlon/TT IMHO, but not on a road bike unless you’re really short and need the smaller wheel (like 5′-5’2).

The steerer extender is horrendous and has to go.

Fully tuned up and ready to ride, with good tires, chain etc, it would be $400ish in my market. When I see pics at storage places, I generally suspect the bike is in OK condition (people rarely pay to store cracked frames). However, I always assume it’s a “locker auction flipper”, not a bike person, and that the bike will need servicing.

I also see a lot of locker flippers who have limited bike knowledge and do minimal research, Usually googling the model, finding similar color frame, but a much newer model, and pricing it with a very optimistic asking price.
