#Trials #TrialsWC

Good afternoon trials fans. We are back here for the UCI Trials World Cup in Cordon, France. This time is the men men’s elite 26 in final. I’m Matt Pingelli from Shindic Media and joined me joining me today is a special guest and rider and close friend Mr. Andrew Chai. Hello Andrew. Hello. Hello everyone. Fantastic to be here. Really looking forward to this. We just had the women. That was a blast. It was I feel strange calling you Andrew. So if anyone calling him Chai because that is his name too. So I just as I said good morning Andrew afternoon. So into our 26 in elite riders. They’ll be just getting their briefing here. You can see a couple of the shots of the amazing fantastic location that is Cordon France for today’s finals. Very very tricky conditions though, aren’t they? They were this morning. And um yeah, the ladies were riding through a lot of fog, a lot of mud. I’m hoping it’s dried up a bit more just for all the events here, but we will see. Yeah, I would like to hope the conditions have improved, but whatever they are, all the riders will be riding the same gates, the same sections. So, just as previously done, if you don’t know before, two minutes per section, five sections, six gates, 10 points per gate. So each rider is going to be looking at getting a maximum score of 60 points per gate. Here are the standings from the actual overall world cup I believe. Not those scoring. Yeah, you can see those those points there. Um not matching up to the qualifying. Anyway, there is the top. I think these are actually over. Yeah, these are overall now looking at it. Vincent uh 10th, Gonzalez, Nathan Shara, and all of our top 10 riders. But these are the six that qualified. Um all of which are within the top five apart from Tony Gillian. No, Tony Gillen from Spain is usually ranked 45th uh in the standings and has made today’s final. So I think he’ll be very happy. Um just pushing out Marty Erda there. But another Spaniard. So the battle of the British and the Spanish again. Tony actually used to ride 20 in. He was an excellent rider in 20 category and made the move to 26 recently. I want to say this is going to be one of he’s pushed into. Yeah. I’ve not seen him in the finals. I don’t think I I think you’re right there. And uh of course the other generation, Jack being the oldest, most experienced in our final, of course, uh a ’90s baby. The rest born within sort of 2001, 2005. Um so bit of a bit bit of an age difference there. And uh the youngest Oliver Weightman for United Kingdom. Um he qualified in fourth position. So that’s Tony now for Spain. Yes, fifth position qualifying was Danny Baron up to the stage now. Sister Baron just won the women’s. That’s right. Yeah. Strong family here in Trolls Baronss. qualifying in position. Oliver Waitman made it into the European finals last weekend and was one of the only riders. Him and Jack were the one only ones that made a side hop in uh in one of those finals. So really showing his power. Um we having a top three British podium last weekend for the Europeans. So, how will today fair? The Spaniards or the British or a mix? Going to try and be neutral here. Yes, we are neutral. I don’t know what you’re talking about. We are. We’re unbiased. It’s all to play for here. Does that mean Yeah. Jack Karthy qualified in second just 10 points behind Charlie who qualified with 450. Jack was 530. Sorry, Charlie with 540. Jack with 530 and then a jump down to size at 450. um who scored the same as Oliver Waitman in the qualifiers but just had one more 50 points one more 50 in one of the sections there and then Von with 420 and Tony with 370 so bit of a gap between Yeah we’ve uh we had a lowscoring women’s finals so will we have a lowcoring men’s The level after our little walk through with Steve there was pretty pretty difficult. Yeah, I don’t think they’ve made any adjustments to sections from Ford weather, but it’s um yeah, they’re riding as they were yesterday. We may see a couple of planks of wood on the floor. We did see some there. Um there’s your UCI commissioner panel there as well. uh the whole team on the ground making sure all the rules are followed, the timings are correct and uh all the scores go through nice and smoothly for all of us. So in the women’s we actually had a few people well one one occurrence of coming off right at the start gate. We can see here that starting platform looks a little bit drier just showing how challenging the conditions really are. Yeah, I don’t think it’s going to affect the puddles, unfortunately. They’ll still be there. Still be a little bit boggy, but you’re absolutely right. Let’s hope there’s some been some improvements um to the conditions. So, that you know, we’d like to get some 60 pointers. I want to see, you know, be proven wrong. Yeah, often often we are just see the riders here. Look at that gap there where Jack’s feet are to that rock. Like a be piece of marble. So I don’t think any rubber will be able to grip. But will we be be proved wrong? So you see that’s section number one there that the lake house we’ve been calling it because there’s part of a house or an attempt of a roof house which uh the quarterfinals was the first step that Charlie’s on now the semifinals was the second step and now the finals there and they’re going to make their way to the very top. So the riders here will be aiming for the yellow gates, the yellow checkpoints. We like to call them gates because as a rider goes through them afterwards they close. They cannot go back through which is one of the reasons we sort of call them gates but they are checkpoints. Um so once they’ve got through that checkpoint they get those points and can carry on. Um lovely water feature the lake there as well because that’s new. That sort of building that they build isn’t always there. So that that one’s new. It’s nice to see the the progression of the course gets built and stays there for the riders themselves to go. So if they’re ever in that area, any car riders on road trips, um I think you can you can quite happily go and ride begins. So He’s going to show us now where they’ve got to go. The gate is at the very top. Front wheel is out to the end. Front wheel on it. Plus, there is enough room to sort of rest. Nice. Yes. And and so we begin. Okay. 10 points for Tony. It does. Look at that gap. What? That gap’s huge. It’s not like you can dab it. This and through the waterfall, but Oh, right in the water. There you go. Straight in. That’s it for Danny. For Tony’s first ride in section number one. got 10 points. 10 points for Tony. So all the all the other riders are going to be watching the riders going before them to try not to make the same mistakes. Danny Baron now the brother of Vera. [Music] Head back to the females finals there to find out what the score was. No spoilers here. learned that from the last stream. Yeah, we didn’t think I didn’t think that was enough for them to rest the front wheel on, but obviously it is. No problem there for Danny. 10 points. Danny’s got a big gap on him now. So, they they need to gap to that pointy rock that’s in front of him and get in this kind of hook position. getting that front wheel over so that he can shift his body weight and grip the rock [Music] in really pointy edge as well. So now we Oh goodness, Danny. So, two riders out on the second gate and look just wheel in the water. So, what little bit different from the 20 ines we saw earlier. No disc brakes. They’ve got rim brakes front and back. So, great start, well composed, good control, landing perfectly and just I think he wasn’t quite on the point. And I must say here there’s There’s no there’s sort of no room for give here. Okay. Oliver Waitman for Great Britain. Quite an exciting start. Yeah. Making his way up. Make or break here. Oh, he’s held it. He obviously knew Right. He saw Danny and I think there’s probably only one point on that rock that you’re just not going to slip. So, he’s opting to start on the flat then go onto the Oh, no. Now he’s gone for the really tough start uh setup. Sorry. got to watch his toes on the rock. Doesn’t want to touch the rock at all. Got it. I mean, it’s probably safer just to opt to get through rather than attempt the gap. Yeah, it looked like he meant to. Yeah. 20 points for Oliver so far. The furthest one through. Yeah. Tape just in front of him there. So, he needs to turn to the left. hop to the point. Monstrous gap to front, swapping to back. Did you say it was? Yeah. I mean, he went in the water, too. This was about 7 foot, wasn’t it? How big it is compared to the observers. Really? He He just rolled up it though like it was nothing. But that’s seven foot in the air. Yeah, it’s a good start from Oliver on 40 points so far. Yeah, he’s not going to want to be going into the water like that, but his time is up. All right, showing what can be done. 40 points is our best score so far. I mean, we’re we’re expecting it to be low scoring if the winners go. Julian signs is up next for Spain. Julian insane as we call him sometimes some insane body movements and moves in his riding. So bit optimistic for Union. I think he’s going to power through. Let’s find out. Comfortable steps here for the boys. Really narrow exit there. this um house lake house. Oh, front to back. Nice. Instead of the such a powerful Yeah. They’re all going to get in this hook. If it was dry, you might have seen some of them go to front. That would have been interesting. Setting up. Got to be perfect on that log. Oh, is Will slipping. He’s put his foot down, hasn’t he? Oh, he has. Yeah, just now. Not really a move. You can dab them. Is it so tough? So, he’s got back on. Oh my goodness. Gasping in the audience. Yeah, it’s got out. That was a bit of a tricky situation to get out of it. Yeah, we heard his back break. Now we may not hear it. It’s just got soaking wet. Shiming up to the top. Incredibly narrow pinpoint takeoff. Swaps. Holding our breath at the same time. Right up to this very modern advanced tractor. You can see they put they put wood on the floor there. Oh, good recovery. how easy Ollie made that look, isn’t it? Yeah, that’s what I was saying. Look at this angle. Ridiculously high. And Oliver being the next one is like perhaps he’s Oliver’s ridden on a few tractors himself. Yes. So, the Bgate is just at the end of that tractor there right through the gate. Yeah. So you you can do that as long as you go through the gate. You don’t need to touch the obstacle that’s attached to it. You can sort of send yourself through it as long as the front and back axle makes it through. Jackie now qualify in second position. So yeah, look straight in. No messing about. Yes, he’s taking a safer as well. Oh, bit wheel spin as he took off there. He’s got to be careful when you rush. Yeah, see rolled into it then. 10 points for Jack. How will he do on gate number two? It’s A and then B. No stranger to a beam. Good positioning. Such a tricky look. Back wheel is almost under underhanging keeping his bike as dry as possible. That’s going to be a good tactic here today. All about that was very very clever. He is one of the most experienced riders in today’s final. So, will we see any great techniques? any special moves. Shimmying through shimmering up. So that’s a he’s got to get up be the same as you front to back onto that front back. He’s looking comfortable. His tires are still dry. Yeah. This might [Music] No. Whoa. Whoa. That was not expected. No. No. 30 points for Jack. Wow. I don’t even know what happened. See the wheel spin there as well. So that just that’s going to knock your confidence as well. So only 30 points for Jack. I mean, it’s good. It’s good. It’s to be fair. Yeah. In the level today, that might be what most riders are going to get. And that just goes to show if that’s what Jack’s scoring. Don’t think we’re going to have too many 60s. But we still have a rider to go. Charlie rolls for Great Britain. See how Charlie does. Good start. That’s going to save a bit of time. You see, he’s going to be the one to be pushing here knowing that his competitors have slightly not the best possible scores. And I think he’s got himself in a very good position there to swap to back wheel. Yeah, avoid the pink gates, too. I will add that they cannot go through any other gates but their yellow gates. If they go through a pink gate, that’s a it’s an instant five or penalty onto that. Here we go. front back just I’m sure he probably tried to avoid that but this caught Jack out and I think I know why there’s a stump at the very top. Got to get your front wheel on there. Jack didn’t get his front wheel over it. Just too much to the side. 40 points for Charlie Rolls. 40 seconds to go. Oh my god. It all happens so quickly. So he actually he avoided the water totally. Oh wa wa wa. What a monster move that is. But what a fantastic over. So gap to front, stayed on it, pivoted all the way over the beam, avoided the water and landed on the other side. Let’s have a look. Yeah, really look just just just looking comfortable there. This is it. Look at that. I just felt like a Chinese going to turn around and go, “So when does the final start?” No, look at the scores so far. Wow. We’ve got 10, 20, 30, 40s, and 50s in the first section. First section. It’s It’s going to be all to ride for Let me just lean back on my get use my whole seat here. Goodness me. Tony now. So, we’ve moved into uh sort of the wood and rock section. Nice technique rolling that front wheel through and then bees at the top of that log. Look, taking off from the log. All on the back wheel. Nice. So, 10 points so far. Just over a minute 30 to go. I think that was the next gate. That was A to B. Yeah. So, it’s that got to get Yeah. Just in front of him there. A bit of a weird angle to come from as well cuz he’s going to have to turn in the air. Yeah, that one’s tough. Get grip there. They would need to literally land on the edge. Yeah, Tony there. So, I’m not sure. It’s going to be tough to see them get through that cuz I feel like they’re going to have to turn as they take off. Kind of get into that position. Well, yeah. I don’t think Tony was going for that. It looked like he was just trying to be on the corner on the corner to like utilize every part of the area of the gate itself. So, brakes working. We can hear that one now. through a 1. A turning on the log. We go on the back wheel. 10 points for Danny. A minute 30 to go. That’s tough when you’re using a quarter of the time to do one gate. That’s really tough. So tape as well trying to avoid the gates. Front axle through, back axle through. Staying on the beam on the back wheel. Oh, he was looking at a gap. You see? Ah, yes. I can see that now from this angle. Instead of going from the rock, he’s going to try and go from Yeah. from the log where his front wheel is now. I’d like to think back wheel up there and then connect it to the front. Let’s see. No. Into the hook. [Music] Come on, Danny. Yes. 20 points for Danny Baron. The conditions look like they are. Yes, they they definitely have that time. This is Well, it doesn’t look like Oh, he is. So underhand underhand underhand. So beyond vertical. Look at that. Oh, that’s what that’s why I was thinking. I don’t know if they could because how are you going to get your body weight to also pivot? I I have um You’re an engineer. I have seen people do it in the past. Okay. I have seen people do hooked in the past. It’s beyond It’s beyond physics. Yeah. Okay, give you a jet engine is a bit more suitable, right? Okay, Danny Baron’s ride there. Fantastic effort again. No stranger to a top three as well. And only only only scoring 20 points, 30 points. Goodness me, I’ve just messed it up again. We will anyway. But Oliver Waitman They’re using that block. Oh, get his front wheel hooked over enough. Push it. Yeah, he’s through. Shows you how difficult that is. The first few riders are not struggling with that, but it’s just because of how good they are to make it look so easy. Well, yeah. And as I was saying, almost Yeah. Look, quarter of the time and one gate through. So, you need to be doing each gate in about 20 seconds to get to the end. So, we may not see sixes, but we have to wait and see. Is Oliver going to go for the gap? He did look at it. They’re looking at it. Yeah, they’re all looking at it. So opting for the same routes as Danny. Oh, he’s got to watch his toes. The observers. He’s there. He’s on it. [Music] Crowd get right in right behind him. This is tough. He just wants to get his back wheel up. Doesn’t look quite right, does it? Yeah. Not quite right there. Yes, he’s used a dab. He won’t get the points for gate number two. But look, you can see from this angle just ahead of him that gate and the tape on the left hand side. That is a crazy gate. Got 20 loss. Yes, he did. 20 front. I mean, how big that is. I mean this if you’ve seen some of this recent clips of going to front actually not surprised he went through it. He’s probably one of the riders I would have thought would have made that front to back. Um new signs now he’s going to want to do one better than his um fellow teammate Danny who got 20 points. So often using that log as well. Yeah, he’s through service. Was close, but fine. Yeah, back wheel. I wonder if we see anyone front to back. It must be a very weird angle. Excuse me. There we go. Second gate. I think Julian’s going to look at this gap. Oh, I would like to see someone go. Yes, he’s getting in a better position for it. Here we go. Yes. Yo. Oh, he went. How do you keep that? I He He is He is a man of many saves. I’m sure we find out he’s super glued his pedals to his feet. Great recovery. Also, what a tough that I I think he made it more difficult for himself to take off from that there than using the approach that Danny and Oliver took. I Yeah, I wonder if he just got thrown after that first attempt. Thinking about the right position. Yeah, tough one. Jack McCarthy now for Great Britain. Let’s see how Jack does. So action through back action through staying on the log there. Got to get through B. 10 points for Jack. Now will Jack go for the gap? I’d like to think he he will look at it. I mean most of the riders have looked at it. No, you’re playing it safe. Yeah, despite the risk this sport, despite how risky this sport looks, you’ll see a lot of riders take very risk. This is very surprising from I I know I But he seems to still be in very good spirits, I must say. Cash smile. Yeah, I think he was laughing a bit. He was just uh I’m a it’s not often I’m speechless. I’ll say that. Um really feeling for Jack there because you know part of this is going to be the conditions and not the riders capability. So really tough for Jack Cary there. But onto our next British rider Charlie Rolls who qualified in first position. Let’s see how Charlie does. You’re going to go from the rock to the beam. It’s a lovely technique. That was a I said if we have anyone use the front wheel French through it avoiding the tape. Let’s see how Charlie does the gap. Goes. He’s on. Still going to get through though. He’s on it. I think he looked in a much more comfortable position. Yeah, he’s got a bit more room on his left. There we go. And he’s got it. Yeah, that’s fantastic. Yeah, really really great effort from Charlie there. A minute to go. 20 point. Like you just see they’re they’re all going to run out of time. This is redonkulous. I don’t know what Charlie’s approach here is. I think he might go for that underhand. He’s trying to figure it out for himself. I think a lot of the time when I’ve asked Charlie go, “How are you going to do this?” He goes, “I’ll wait till I get there, It’s not bad.” Oh, he kept it though. That was really close. Up to front. Really close. Yes. I think it’s safe to say that the underhang hook is not going to work. No. 20 seconds to go and this is only A and then B is just from the floor. Wow, Mr. Charlie Ro 20 points. That was the highest score. The highest score in this section was 20 points. Wow. Is it do you is would you say this is probably one of the lowest scoring finals you’ve ever watched, Chai? It’s got to be. It’s got to be. Right. It’s got to be. I mean just showing that we are pushing. We’re finding the boundaries which seems to be difficult in trials. I’m like going how are they going to do that? But they are. So Charlie Rolls in the first position at 70 points. Oliver Waitman with 50. Jack Coffee with 40. Julian Sid’s 30. Damon 30. Um and Tony Gillian with 20. It’s all super super close. Anything can happen. Well, this is it’s still you know some of the riders might get a zero. you know, one comes through and just smashes through and gets a 60, which I won’t, you know, until we see it right now. But, um, Tony Gillian then section number three bean sections. So, I’d like to think they’ve all dried up quite nicely. Maybe just the mud granite rock. So carefully placed tape there so they can’t take the easy route. Now just in front of him there about his head height is the is the gate. You got 10 points. This is 2 A. He’s got a gap to that other one in front. Position. Oh man. Nice swap. No, he has to do it again. Is there another route, do you think? Is he going to go from the top again? So there you could go for the lower. Yeah, the beam that’s just to his left. He could have started on there. There is tape just well done Tony. Great gap to front. Well controlled looks just to his right. Clever approach went from behind until turned into it. [Music] Got a decent score here. Yeah, 30 points. That That’s a huge score. got 10 seconds if it’s Oh, wow. might be safer just to tell him before. Can you imagine if they didn’t and he went for it and just Yeah. So, uh, first rider through section number three, Tony and Julian. 30 points. 30 points. So, if he hadn’t have had to go through gate number three again, may have got to the 40. But, as I saying, I think it’s doable. It looks like he might only have room for like one mistake if if any if any mistake. It’s really No mistakes really. See these riders get through 60s. They’re making [Music] conditions definitely improved massively. Yeah, he’s staying in the tape. You can see they have put little bits of wood I think just to help riders. But don’t know if that makes it any better. You’re just adding an obstacle. Yeah, they just have to stay within that little bit. Oh, he got it. Yeah, are happy with that. Y he’s nodding. Now the gates down to the beam to come back where the rock There we go. So they have to Yeah. So they have to approach the right direction. Right. So now this will be for 40. So I think that’s A and then B is just to the left. So that front axle through for AS [Music] 40 points. Really, really nice. Well done, Danny. This is Look at how big this is. Oh my. That’s got to be six. Oh my. Wow. He get Oh, he got close. Got very close. Yeah. So, it’s 40 points for best score so far in section number three. That area looks so tricky. Just beams just directly up out of the ground. Oliver Waitman, very very powerful rider often trying to take the smart routes. If there’s a big gap, I believe Oliver is going to do them. The youngest competitor in today’s final. Good time so far. 1 minute 30 five left to go. Let’s try. Yeah. They’ve all gone for this route where they using as much of the course as they can. Come back. And then back where he came. Here we go. Yep. Yeah, he’s through. 30 points with a minute to go. So, this is looking good. Come on, Oliver. He’s comfortable with those static hooks as well. I want to see. Come on. Oh, you’ve got this. This right. Got into that position. Watching those toes. Watch the observers like I’m watching you. [Music] Yes. Just Yeah. Just go. Just go. Right. Can you get 30 seconds to go? Come on, Oliver. Did his stem move or did his [Music] Well, that that that’s good though. 40 points. This that could be an excellent score. I mean, no, sorry, let me rephrase that. It is an excellent score in in these in the level and the conditions that they’re dealing with. And look at the crowd turnout. Really, really good. really pleased to see such um such a large level of spectator for what a beautiful place to host it. So Julen signs Julian in scene and mommy rolls there in the background. Go on, Julian. Right. And he, as you see, wants to sort of not have too many corrections and getting everything first time. Staying on the beams as well. Like so far, he hasn’t touched the grass. Literally, the floor is lava. First rolled into it almost perfectly. He hasn’t really corrected himself at all. So that’s good. He’s good. [Music] But this is a this is a slightly strange gate, I would say. I wonder if the um I wonder if that might have been the Yeah, it’s been an interesting route that they’ve taken it because it’s even confusing for us at that moment like are they going away from it to come back to it, you know? Not sure about that one. But these ones, this one here now pretty clear. Got to get into the hook. [Music] He’s missed his positioning, but he’s just going to use probably lovely tapping that front wheel. Getting the back wheel through. 10 seconds to go. I’m not sure if this is an A or B, though. That’s it. Time it 40 points as we know now. Great score. Great, great score from Julian. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Two riders left to go in section number three. Jack Coffee will be up next. Um, he’s going to want to make up for some some very basic errors from him that’s so unusual. So unusual. And the end of the day, you don’t know what’s going on in the rider’s head on that day. um we know their abilities but but um a large percentage of this is what’s going on in your mind. So check coffee now. Yeah. See opting to stay on the woods perfectly placed. We’ll see a lot of these just the body shift in this move is crazy. That’s why this make it look so easy. But that move is extremely tough. That’s crazy. It’s definitely not something that most of us were doing maybe 10 years ago. No, not at all. Never capable of it. It’s completely changed the game in terms of what people building for sections now as well. Does seem to open up a lot in terms of what you can get. So looking relaxed. He might just be having a bit of fun. We did see him smiling earlier. He’s just enjoying himself. He’s just thinking, you know what? Just going to ride my bike. Just so happens there. Camera’s there and people are watching. So just over 40 seconds to go. Jackie had a minute. as he keeps it. Oh, so why have the observers have just him? Good for you. Good for you, Jack. Just like whatever. Okay, if if I did that, I didn’t see I mean again, that’s why I’m not an observer. That’s so unfortunate for Jack. Um don’t think we saw that. I think we’ll be watching the replays closely or the highlight videos when we put them out uh later. Let me see. there. That to be fair. Yeah. Oh, I can see. Yeah, he just where he puts his front wheel down where the gate is. Right into the gate. Poor Jack. Well, onto Charlie Rolls, who’s going to want to make sure he makes no mistakes. There we go. He’s through. 20 points for Charlie and one minute 30 left to go. Yeah, they’ve all opted for this route. I don’t It was pretty hard angle for us here to kind of really understand this one, but rock to rock to rock, they’re through. 30 points. Charlie’s a comfortable static hooker, should we say, but it’s so thin. Just avoiding his toes. Oh, just through that one as well. 50 seconds to go. Can Charlie be our first rider to get 50 points? in this section. He’s on it. That’s tricky. Looks like that’s going to work. Oh my goodness. Absolute respect for Mr. Charlie Rolls. I hope he hasn’t injured himself. He wants to stay bit for the last two. I know. There’s the element there. What risks do you take? because then you might very quickly find yourself in a sticky situation if you hurt yourself or damage your bike. Wow. So, scoring so far, Charlie Rolls in first position 110, Oliver Wait on 90, Julian’s on 70, Danny on 70, Jack on 70, and Tony on 50. Yeah, I mean, real big shocker there. We’ve had a few shocking moments uh today. Two sections left to go. Two sections to go. Tony’s in for Spain. First gate just on the top of that log. Dropping through AB 10 points. You can see the conditions there too. Very very swamplike. getting that front wheel through, back wheel through. It’s going to be tough because it’s There isn’t really a sharp edge for them to grip that front wheel, is there? You can see how slippery it is. Slipped at the top there as well. Yeah, his brake was clearly on. Front wheel just skidded. So only 10 points. He can’t put a foot down now. One minute to go. Absolutely no room for error. This is gnarly. It’s a kicker. Oh, he has to go for it, Tony. Go on, mate. Whoa. That’s not That’s not what we wanted. Oh my. I think a little bit of we came out. Oh my gosh. Just so yeah, very scary move. Still sort of went for it, but did not get his bike nowhere near high enough. It’s just so scary just to think about going at it full pelt trying to get up the trying to get up the long and just going into it. I’ve done something similar in the past. I think yeah, you know all about that, Charlie. Some of our listeners will have seen that. Um Danny Baron now to we can see they have also used bits of red going up either side. Yeah. For the walk. So, there’s only one sort of one route for them to take this log here. Tricky cuz you can’t How do you h hang your front wheel over there when it’s probably slippery? Let’s find out. Don’t just hang there. And did you hear that little noise as well? Like a little uh Yeah, I’ve been watching you ride, Charlie. Yes. Rolling. He let he let the split happen. Knew that it was going to be slippery and just went to As you were saying the wheel moving is going to be grippier. 20 points so far. Just over a minute left to go. Look at that runner up. Being a serious runner up for this is using the entire section. Go on Danny. Go on Danny. Go on Danny. Yo. Yes. Yes. Yes. Come on. Swap. Swap. Yes. Danny. Danny. Danny, nice. Great ride. Fantastic work. That’s 30 points. He’s only halfway through the section and he’s 40 seconds to go. That feels like a gate number six. Oh, gnarly, gnarly. Gnarly. All right, Danny. That’s a How are they going to capture that at the top of there? Yeah. Yeah, he’s on he’s on it. Oh, there’s a block. He’s on it. He’s on it. Yes. Hey, Danny’s on fire. Yes. This is a great ride from Mr. Baron. Um just Yeah, he’s happy with that. Look at that. Very, very happy. Really good ride from Danny. Running out of time, but I think that was 40 points. Yeah. See rolling the front wheel through, letting the back wheel hit to kind of stop him. That was beautifully done. I’m not sure he could have got that kicker any better. Good for Great Britain. Let’s see. Mostly everyone taking the same approaches and same routes right now. See how wet it is actually the floor puddles in the trenches up there. going quickly using the momentum as well. Checking out that kicker, see what it’s like. Know what kind of run up he’s going to take. It looks like he’s staying on the wood here. He’s got a lot of power, so I think he’s going to try and get it in three full rotations. Whoa. No. What? Did he go for back wheel? I I I don’t think he would have wanted to. I just He might have just overshot that kicker. Yeah, he’s he’s done that a few times recently as some of you may know. He has overshot a few kickers in his time. So perhaps misguided it. He actually put in too much power. Such a short runner. Yeah, there you go. I think the body the pipe position also wasn’t quite right how the kicker kicks you into the position. It’s always difficult to judge when it’s the first time but that’s what I imagine that is these riders probably hitting it for the first time. Yeah. And if it is they actually don’t know how it feels and you you don’t really 10 points for Julian. Right. How is he going to do it? We saw Yes, it’s it’s it’s that quick. That seems to be the approach. Yeah. Using momentum to keep yourself up there. Straight to back wheel. No messing around with the He’s got the power. Yeah, I think if you had a chance, you’d want to roll up to the kicker. So, taking the Baron approach at the minute using reception. [Music] Julian also not making it. So Danny’s going to be really happy with his with his run on that one. Got he got two extra gates because of it. And that could be the difference between a podium or not. So Jack Karthy will be next. All right, here we go. The timer. just see as well like sort of desensitizing this first gate just like oh yeah just off the end of a log like it’s actually really scary just oh yes yeah go ahead Jack will take the same technique yeah he’s he’s really good at those getting into the hood and just getting his back wheel up and on to the obstacle quickly grip there to that. I think that’s the difference, isn’t it? If you’re really far over, you’re not going to skid. Front wheel skid. Jack opted for the same as Oliver. Interesting, isn’t it? Jack’s on it. He’s Yeah, he’s done it. Is this going to be the margin that he needs to make? 10 points. So he’s on 30 now. Very good for time. This is good. You know, with with sections scoring so low, just one good section, as we said earlier, can can make all the difference. And Jack Jack is on his ride now. 40 seconds to go. This will be a 4. No way. Wow. So, you can’t get the points there. Yeah. Oh, again staring at the screen saying nothing. Um, that’s so unfortunate for Jack, but you know, that’s all it takes. One little bit of move, man. One look really, really perfect kicker placed. Little bit of correction swapping. So that was comfortable, but I think the tire slipped. The pressure must just get to you as well when you know that you’re about to make a difference. Yeah. Yeah, you’re right. And then just I have to get this 10 points. Probably makes it worse. Um Charlie rolls now avoiding the ground as much as possible. swap. How is he going to do it? To back to front. Also gripping. I think it like you were saying if you just commit and get your body weight in the right place. No, Charlie’s opting for the full run up. Yeah, he’s done a few kickers in his time, but in these conditions, I’m not sure. Let’s see how Charlie gets on with a kicker. Very comfortable. Front wheel just to it. Yeah. And I think he got his front up at the perfect height so it kind of rolled into it rather than slapping on top of it. Yeah, that was Oh, there you go. Same thing caught out Jack. That must be a lot worse than it looks. Yeah, very slippery. The same thing that caught out Jack. Wow. Danny is going to be absolutely chucked with that section. He knew he was cheering and screaming when he made it. So, well done Charlie, but not quite the best scorer in that section. Danny Bon then, which puts Danny in third position up there with Oliver Waitman and Charlie still in first for now. Still all to fight for in the last section, but Charlie is coming in with a very comfortable lead there. 40 30 points over Danny and Ollie. So on to the next section and final section number five. Tony Gilen now for Spain. bit more. This is scary. So, he’s going for the platform up in front of him. Pinpoint take off front. Just think about his front wheel slipping. You know, there see the yellow gate just on the first little block there. Oh, okay. Yeah. So, forcing them to go onto the block is that group 2A in front of him there. And then with absolutely no run up, there’s like a gap to to sort of a chimney. It’s huge. And the fact that it’s rounded with a slippery tire, how are you going to grip that? You just need to you got to get Yeah, you just got to get over it. You got to have that power so that you’re literally on top of the the obstacle. That’s the difference when it’s slippery like this, you know, when you’re doing these um big moves. You literally have to be on top. And there you go. Yeah. So, it’s more so getting the body weight, the center of gravity right to the top of the obstacle there. They can’t hang that front wheel like they might have that sort of forgiving um motion. So, check out this little slab. Wow. Um I did say I like a side up, but this is he going to dab it. I see you smiling there, Chai. Really good control dab though to go what? I must say that was a really well controlled Japan, wasn’t it? Like no, seriously though, like that wasn’t just like that’s probably the best way to dab to get up that rather than on your foot and try to get your bike there. And so I’d like to see I’d like to see how the riders uh take that section. All right, Danny Baron for Spain. Fifth and final section. Currently in third position. He’s going to want to keep that by uh of course scoring as many points as he can. Wheel slipped. Yeah, it went to front. Was not pinned enough. Will slips and no points for one. He did well to just get the one there. Yeah. Yeah. It could have could have been a complete five. So tough. You can So yeah, he’s going to be diving fully pushing that wheel barely enough. Yo. Oh, that must see it. He was up. I know. I thought that might have been it, but he’s bleeding his time now. Get behind him, guys. Everyone cheer him on. Come on, Danny. Wheel spin there. This Oh, he’s going to be getting tired. There was a little wheel spin when he kicked off at the first inning. Come on, Danny. I mean, fatigue is just going to be kicking in now. Imagine this after, you know, doing all five sections, four sections, and I think it was another wheel. Yeah. I mean, he’s just, you know, he’s going to he’s going to be literally gripping onto those bars. He’s going to be so fatigued. Yeah. All right. Oh, okay. He’s just Oh, gutted. Yeah, it’s all right. Oh, man. He looks drained. Oh, man. soul has left his body. So unfortunate for Danny, but giving him a wave. Great effort, Danny. So unfortunate. Oliver Weightman. Now the first British rider for section number five. They want to be doing the Yes. pinning it there knowing making sure 10 points. Bit more of a runner. Just being careful not to get the power. Yo, yes. Yes. Nice, Oliver. First Troy. And that’s what they need to do. Did he hit that gate at the bottom? We can’t. Oh, we’re in the drone. Uh, that gate at the bottom. No, he’s got the points. He’s going to sign this. Go on. Come on. Go on, Oliver. Go on, Oliver. Yes. Stay on. He can do this. Come on. Come on. He’s got to stay on, isn’t it? Look, not only it’s not even a flat landing. Stay on and the gate will be just in front of him. Minute to go. Yes. Come on. Yes. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Look at that balance. Getting there. Swap through. And he’s got more to do. Yes. 10 points. 30 points now. 30 points for all of us. He’s got to stay on the beam here. He’s got to Oh, okay. No, he has got 30 points on this. So, there’s another gate on the other end of this beam. So, he’s opted to come down and he needs to get up again position for spectators. Oh my gosh, look how high that is. We can just from this angle, he just dipped his head to fit under it. Just Well done, Oliver. That side up as well. done it twice. Amazing. But do you know what? That’s the first riders we’ve seen go for that are right footed. Jack and Charlie are left footed riders. They can do it from the other side. I don’t know if you noticed, but there’s another plank on the other side. There is. So, they can do it from either side. I was testing you, Charlie. So, we will we will see. Uh how that goes. Yeah, I did see that now on the floor because I would thought, oh, it’s not that. But you say that sometimes an obstacle can be a different height depending on which side you approach it and um you know it may be a harder side on the other side and we don’t know that yet because Julian is also right footed so that will play into his favor on that side but as you say we haven’t seen anyone go on the other side yet so we we can’t really say too much but I think this is going to be the approaches you want. You can see the size of the gap from this angle. Pinpoint to back wheel. That surprises tires gripping there. Wow. Great. Great gate from Julian. And generally in the wet, you know, when things are slippery, going to back is a bit safer. Oh wow. He made sure he was on top of that. This is a good ride from Nulan so far with a 1 minute 15 to go. Is he going to he is right? So he’s he’s going to offer the side up to front wheel I think to balance on there. Oh wow. First time. Yeah. Look at this. That’s a solid Wow. Yeah. Look at Listen to the crowd. Sorry. Loving that. Wonderfully done. But it’s not over yet. Swap. Swap. Quinn, get through. There we go. Yes. Yes. Yes. We can breathe again. 30 points. So, Julian just creeping into that third position there. [Applause] Got a hook up and over. Drop down. this monster up. What is going to happen there? He’s going to bounce to front. I think that’s the only move. That is the only move from the grass. He’s going to He’s going to land on the post. Oh my gosh. That’s a five. No, that’s a five. I think it’s a five. Yeah, they Wow. What a monster move. Oh, that was I mean absolute respect Julian for making the move just ever so slight. We’re talking millimeters to the left. He just didn’t go through the gate. So beautiful side off. Great switch here. That was nerve-wracking. He had to finish that one cleanly. Oh, so unfortunate. Here we go. Look, just Yeah, look. Axel was just not enough. Serious respect for Jack’s. Don’t know what what 30 points is the best. He’s going to try and get here. Yeah. What does he need? He needs something for He’s going to have to go all the way. He needs it all. Yeah. Because Because Yeah. He can still get, you know, he can still have a stellar run. If he gets a stellar on now, he’s going to want to aim to be in the top. He can guarantee a third if he gets 130, I think. 10 points, 1.5 to go. Slightly shorter run up. Jack’s really good with short run up. Look. Wow. Really? Why did he make that look so easy? Well done, Jack. Mate, that was so good. Now, this is what you we were talking about. Another side. Is it the same size? It looks so big. It’s like bar on back wheel. I mean, Jack is a big guy. Oh, no. I think you just like nothing. Come on, Jack. He had this in the Euros though. He signed up the biggest side up three times and no one else could do it. Like see here’s I mean it does look humongous. Yeah, that’s two god oards in a row now. Come on. Oh, come on. Oh no, Jack. Come on, mate. This was so similar to the Europeans. He knows he can get that height as well. Go on. Send it, mate. Oh no. This is so tired. He’s just Oh no, Jack. Fair play. Smart look good. Good man. Look smiling there. Just you know what? He’s probably like I’m saving it for the championships. That’s when you get the the rainbow jersey. That’s where the colors really stand out. I don’t respect for Jack Coffee there making the side up three times. Little Godard one and off. And we weren’t sure we would see any of them but Jack Cy delivered. And what shall we put on? So Charlie rolls now. Yeah. Making sure to pin to that corner. So all the Griffy can Charlie also that’s one full two full rotations of the pedals. That looked comfortable. Now Charlie, you know, many times he said not really don’t really like Sidops. I think he’s going to take more of a run up here. Can’t see from this. There we go. Look. Yeah. Oh, this is going to be tough for him. Oh man, it’s so big move and all that mud as well. Yeah. Call the crowd need to get behind him for this. He’s going to need that. Come on, Charlie. Go for it, mate. Yes, Charlie. Oh, lucky. Oh, it’s so annoying. That must I love it. He’s just having fun though. He’s already, you know, he’s just chasming. Yo, back to back. Is he giving up? Is it? He has. Yeah, he’s called it. Oh, well done Charlie Rolls. Yes, the World Cup trials winner representing Great Britain. Also, currently they’re also wearing the European Champion jersey. Representing Spain, Julian. Yeah, what a fantastic ride. Just fantastic ride. Very very low scores though just showing. So here is the finals. Charlie Rolls in first position. Oliver Waitman in second and Julian Signs only getting through in third over Jack because he got one more 40. Those that 10 points in that other gate meant everything and he knew it. There’s a moment. Mommy rolls Charlie. He got some mud. And there’s Albert and Charlie there. Just just I think he’s glad it’s over. Look. Oh, look at the mud in his face. That’s what happened. Muds all over his face. I think we will go and um hear from Charlie in a second, but just couple of uh the highlights there from Charlie. Charlie, what did he think to that one? That was crazy. Ride. Yeah, that was fantastic. What a ride. Ah, guttered for coffee. just missing out on a podium a little bit. It could have nearly had that full British podium again, but um yeah, purely one gate. One gate. Yeah, that I think it was that one there. This one here that pushed pushed Danny through to get that third position. Yeah, Jack’s mistake of that gate. Yeah, amazing ride from everyone there. Judian welld deserved third place and um Oliver second I think is that first for him that’s Oliver’s first second place first second place he’s he’s just warming up he’s just like Charlie I’m behind you look out so what an amazing 26 in elite final that was fantastic um we we really had a blast doing this one I’ve got to say thank you all for for tuning in.
