First, the blade never even touched the paper, so how can you compare the before and after by cutting the paper after you sharpened it. I guarantee that sharpener would not make a durable, sharp edge.

Those are trash for sharpening and they ruin your knives. Sad to see him fooling people like that. All that does is produce more fools that ruin their knives. So many people bring me knives that they used trash like that on and it’s sad to see how much material I have to remove to get rid of the damage.
What he isn’t telling you is after you use the knife on something other than paper, you are going to have to run it through that again immediately. All that does is put a burr on the knife. It doesn’t produce a sharp edge.
