I found a Gary fisher bike on the side of the road next to trash and I picked it up. It came with no wheels though but it did have a shimano deore lx installed but I removed it and cleaned it separately, my question is what wheels do I put on? I have one 27” wheel but I will have to buy a back wheel.

I think buying a wheel for it would be worth it because it looks to be in decent condition and by putting a back wheel on it youd have a functioning bike

Prolly takes 26″ wheels

Cool find. You could probably make a fun gravel bike with that frame.

That’s almost 100% a 26er frame, based on the age of what parts I see. Axle to brake boss distance will be around 9.5 to 10″ if it is, from what I’m measuring on my old GT.
I’d look for another decent quality old bike on Marketplace or Craigslist to cannibalize for the rest of the parts you need.

Check the frame for cracks if you decide to build up, especially the headtube

Clean it, build it, ride it.
It’s a 1997

Check it for damage. I work in a shop, and people bring these road side finds in sometimes like “OMG look at this buried treasure I found!” only for us to go through it and find that its cracked or some shit.
Had a guy do this with a beautiful Serotta frame set recently. Wanted us to build it up. As soon as we took a wrench to it, we realized the frame was *super* bent. It was as if the rider had been t-boned by a car. Frame was trash, taco’ed.
So yeah… check this for cracks, and do your best to check it geometrically before you put money into this.
