I’ve been riding the hell out of this thing for 2 years, love it, super fun. This is my first legit mtn bike and after I found the pressures and dialed in the few settings I have, I just ride the bike and it works great. I need to service my fork and do something with the shock. Fox said they will replace my recalled x2 with a factory x2 for ~$170(no longer free) or maybe a credit towards a different shock if they’re cool? It’s my understanding if I want a livelier bike stick with air(it’s a lot of bike) and if I want more trail smashability go coil. I believe I’m running 2 volume spacers and very rarely bottom out. Is the progression of this bike designed more for air or coil? Will I be bottoming out significantly more with a coil?

The higher end Roczen edition of your bike comes with a coil. Just sayin’!
I prefer coil shocks. The frequency of bottoming out will depend on the weight of the spring you choose and how hard you actually ride.
Coils have a big rubber bumper on them, so bottoming out feels a lot more forgiving than it does for an air shock
Damn I paid $200 to have my x2 rebuilt. Wish I knew I could have had it upgraded. I have the same bike. I’m happy with it though. Works really well for the bike. Took me about 800 miles to blow the seals on it
Find a coil with hydraulic bottom out. It’s a game changer.
I guess it would depend on what you like to ride and how important pedalling is to you. You have an ebike so imagine you pedal quite a bit an Air Shock is likely going to make the climbing experience much better and reduce the amount of bouncing, you’ll have the ability to adjust a high end shock much more than a spring any day. Air shocks depending on what you’re riding I’ve found can keep you quite well planted (Fox Factory X2 Float) or can be quite lively on jumps (Rockshox Super Deluxe), I prefer the Fox myself.
But if you’re making big hits and sort of riding that line between enduro and DH that really want’s a quick recoil/HS reaction then maybe coil shock is the way to go?
I personally wouldn’t put a coil on an E Bike that doesn’t make sense to me BUT that’s just my opinion and who GAF about that right? You do you!
i love coil shocks so much
Love me some coil! That Sandy Ridge I see??
I would probably go with a coil since it’s a progressive bike. I haven’t ridden the e-torque, but the acoustic torque with coil was one of the best feeling bikes I’ve ever ridden.
Bottoming out has nothing to do with coil vs air, it has to do with setting your shock up right, and the terrain you ride.
The EXT coil I put on my stumpy Evo is the heart and soul of the bike. Absolute dream imo
Imo there’s no reason to not go coil on an ebike.
I’d always recommend a coil anyway where possible, but I do have a TorqueON and it was greatly improved by replacing the X2 with a coil.
In general a coil will give better small bump compliance, but may be a bit bouncier when pedaling and will be heavier.
TBH I don’t think there is that much difference in pop/liveliness. Personally I enjoy air shocks because I like being able to adjust pressure based on the ride and my own weight fluctuations but coil would certainly have a bit more simplicity.
