So I was out riding my carbon gravel bike, crashed at about 5 kmph and didn’t think much of it. I then rode 30km home with absolutely no problems, or no strange feelings whatsoever.

When I got home and started cleaning my bike, I saw the crack in the paint on the seatstay. My question is, have I also cracked the frame? The bike didn’t ride any different, and did not bend when under pressure

Absolutely cracked it. Now, this is exactly the type of damage that I repaired myself for the first time years ago. It’s relatively simple to do, and the hardest part will be repainting it, although the white paint might be easier than most. DM for more details, happy to guide you through it. Otherwise, send it to a pro and you’ll have to pay to have the frame stripped down and shipped, then repaired, then built back up. I’d estimate the carbon repair itself is pretty cheap, $150-300. It’s all the other costs that add up quickly.

  2. I cracked my seat stay a few years ago and my LBS sent the frame to Calfee (west coast US). They did a great job. I’m sure you have local carbon repair shops that can handle your frame. Seems that others have tried this repair themselves.
