I've bought a bigger frame bag to increase the storage inside my frame triangle.
However, as expected I need to change my current bottle cages for side-mounted ones as I prefer bidons over waterbags.
Do you guys have recommendations for side-mounted cages that hold the bigger bottles (850ml) well on gravel trips.
Specially, have you had good experiences with certain brands?

  1. Love my Specialized Zee II cages! I use standard 750ml bottles, but should work fine with 850ml. They do both right and left sided versions.

Might not apply to you in this scenario, but I’ve also found bottle droppers to be useful for this kind of stuff (even without haivng a frame bag, because my frame is XS). Tailfin and Wolf Tooth both have options, but there’s plenty of cheaper alternatives as well.

  2. Lezyne side load are pretty good and affordable. Don’t forget if you want both to load from the right side and using downtube and seattube, you’ll need a right and left.

  3. You could do gorilla cages, or there’s a knock off I forget which. On your setup you could do a full frame bag and put the cages on the fork with full 1L bottles each side and it’d be slick with weight in good places.

  4. Side load for sure but even before that, I’d recommend fidlocks. Of course is money isn’t an issue.
