Now versus then. You may think I’m about to criticize the graffiti and litter, but I’m more interested in the base structures themselves. Look at the incredible stonework and brick work here. And then look at well, whatever this is that we do these days. I’d actually go as far as to say some of this graffiti is high level art and an improvement. Whereas here, you would never want to see anything like that cover up the incredible stonework and brick

Hi Dan, The subway going under the Mold road in Gwersyllt near the Wheatsheaf inn and across from Lidl and Gwersyllt station, I've walked through there 100's of times man and child. This was built in 1970/71 as the main road now know as the Old Mold Road and roughly opposite the Wheatsheaf there use to be another pub called the Horseshoe that pulled down in 1970 for the realignment of the Mold Road A541 as it is today.
The subway is made of sections of concrete pipe.
Catch you soon……
But feel free to criticise the litter… nice tunnel art though
The builders were great stone masons, they probably worked cheap as well .Wonder if it would be possible to build these structures today to the same standard?
it is the same engineering principles of archwork though, existing on a continuum of human knowledge working to solve the same problem through the centuries. centuries from now, when the brick is weathered and a new style of arch becomes popular to build, this tunnel too will feel like living history
So much litter, everywhere. It sickens me
I agree with you. I think graffiti can have a place in society.
Particularly in an underground tunnelmsuch as that.
I think we should only pay attention to inappropriate or gang related articles.
The fact that the old has absolutely no graffiti on it is fascinating. It's like the graffiti artists have decided that the old tunnel is too pretty.
Lovely appreciation.❤
They did the same at Chelmsford station in Essex. There used to be a lovely brick tunnel (in the daytime!) now its a wanky wormhole like this…
Modern architecture is cringe
Couldn’t agree more
We had craftsmen and good ideas, now we have machines and overly rigid quotas. A world built by machines only works for machines, hence why you feel comfortable in a modern built environment in a car but not walking. This is one factor anyway
Absolutely beautiful places and genius way they were made years ago
