Took it to the bike shop 2 times already but the chain was rubbing and i dont want to keep returning. needed to fix this myself anyway. I got done fixing the chain rub on the lower limit but here I am stuck before the high limit because for the love of God the cable just wont apply itself. It keeps getting taut on the final torque. I tried everything from the barrel adjuster and clicking the downshift many times and tugging it out the frame before I clamp it in but when the derailleur pulls up, the taut comes back again.

Cant tighten this cable on FD no matter what

  1. You have to lift the cable clamp on those as you tighten them, make sure the adjustment is backed out and the clamp is rotated as clockwise as possible so you can add tension as necessary afterwards

  2. Tighten the cable a much as you can, then tighten that little Allen grub screw to increase the cable tension

  3. These can be a pain. Make sure you turn in your barrel adjuster all the way and back it out 4 turns so you have plenty of adjustment. Then turn the low limit screw in quite a few turns to bring the derailleur outward. Then attach the cable. Unscrew the low limit and that should preload the cable tension nicely as the cage swings back towards the frame. It may take a few tries to balance the correct tension and low limit adjustment. Once correct you’ll need barely any barrel adjuster or tension screw adjustment for the large chain ring to match up the alignment marks.
