France. Day 4 Part 1. La Rochelle to Oradour (See Oradour sur Glane in Part 2)

So, what are we doing today, kids? Campers, I don’t know. So, change of plan. I’ve found a campsite near Oridor, and the weather sadly is not going to stay sunny for the duration of my riding around France. So, I’m going to have I’m going to pack up here early and then I’ve got about a three three and a half hour ride down to a campsite near Oridor that I’ve just found on the internet. First of all, breakfast. Nice little bacon omelette. There you go. Breakfast is served. [Music] Good morning. [Music] Well, this is a little bit nicer. I’m still on the same road, but it’s just turned into this. Oh, look. Free Wi-Fi. [Music] [Music] I’m in a little town called Mel. M E L L E. It said it was had a historic interest. I don’t know much about it, but look at that. How pretty is that place? I have to stop and take a couple photographs. Just a little self detour. P R E S S A C. Thought it looked nice on the signpost. Pretty [Music] little place, isn’t Yeah, French tapas. Anybody? My trusty steed serving me well. Look at this. How idllic is this? Lovely. Okay, so a chap’s just um passed me on a motor or a a push bike going over the bridge, which is this bridge, which is apparently called the Roman Bridge. Okay, so the church that you can see in the distance is a 12th century church and there was a a religious war between the Protestants and Catholics. And the church was only half the height before. And the Protestants won the the war and built it higher to protect the inhabitants of Presac. And this building here used to be a monastery. Oh, he is coming back. Hang on. 500 people. Yes. Six uh pub or restaurant or something like that. Six restaurants, 500. It’s a it’s a gold medal of the small um small cities with so much point to drawing to here you have English people who who made um tapas tapas it’s English people then after you have the u for gasoline the garage essence Yes, as a sailor uh he has a restaurant and to drink. Then after you have a pizzeria and then after in direction of east near you have the restaurant the the house of the butcher. Yes. Oh the butcher. Okay. The man who cut me. And after you have the village of Flutton, okay, it’s it’s on the road of Pier and here you have two point to drink or eat and then for 500 people and we don’t have doctor that mean alcohol is not dangerous. Oh wow. How cool is he? Brilliant. So, five I I don’t know whether you understood it. I did. I mean, it was most of it was English anyway, but there’s only only six places to go and have a drink and there’s 500 people in the town. Brilliant. And the people that own the little tapas bar that I showed you a minute ago are uh are English. Brilliant. What a lovely place. I’m glad I stopped. What a what a lovely chap. [Music] So the the chap that I just met, I should have asked his name, but he said that uh he lives 25 m from where we were stood and he was born in the same town in Presac. And he said that um that a snail could walk further in its lifetime than the distance from where he was standing and where he was born. I don’t know how that came out as a part of the conversation, but it was very funny. He was a very nice chap. It’s good to talk, isn’t it? I don’t do enough of it. Levian River. Wow, it looks lovely. [Music] I’m going to have a little look at the town first, even though it’s telling me to go up there. Let’s go this way first. Look at this. [Music] Well, it’s Monday and I don’t know whether it’s cuz of the time, but everywhere’s shut. Can I go over there? I don’t think I can. There we go. [Music] Now, I missed the name of this one. That’s the bridge I’ve just ridden over. [Music] I think riding over this bridge would have been a bit of a no no. Cut [Music] that. Look at that. Should I go up there? Yeah, let’s do it. Wow. How old is this? Look at it. Look at that. Oh, that’s so lovely. There we go. I’ve just found the perfect campsite. Absolutely beautiful. So, I’m going to pitch the tent. I don’t know why I’m standing behind the camera. Here I am. So, I’m going to pitch the tent and the massive pitch. And then I’m going to go to Sue Oridor to get some fuel because I need fuel badly. Um, get something for eat for eat to eat to light. and then I’ll come back again. It’s been a good day that you’ve already seen. So, obviously I’m back at the campsite and I was going to tag Oridor onto the end of this video, but I think it would just make it too long. So, I’m going to do my own little homage to Oridor in whatever day I’m on, day four. So, it’ll be a day four part two. If you want to see Orodor, if you’ve never heard of it, want to know anything about it, there’s part two after this. I don’t know how YouTube works, whether it’ll automatically come onto it or not. But anyway, if you want to know a little bit more about it or see it, it’s going to be in part two.
