Hi all, been lurking for a couple weeks while I quietly build up a 1994 Marin Muirwoods, pics will come.
I'm looking to put a 1×12 speed on this, already have a groupset. And I've just picked up a wheelset with Shimano FH-M950 hubs on it. 9 speed cassette installed. Picture of the hubs attached via eBay.
Getting confused with all the free hub bodies. Is there a 12 Speed free hub I can fit to this, stretch the rear of the frame out and get on with it?
Cheers

If a 9 speed fits on it should be hg spline you could probably get a sunrace 12 speed 11 – 50 on there. They are hg spline.
Microsoft advent 9 and advent X 10 are good wide range options also
Shimano 12 speed is microspline it won’t fit
ẞram 12 speed is xd it won’t fit
You can buy a 12 speed cassette that is made for older HG free hubs, I think Sunrace makes one.
As far as adapting the hub to MicroSpline, you’re outta luck. Just throwing on a 12s HG cassette would be easier anyways.
Use a SRAM Nx eagle cassette (they are HG) and you’ll be fine, or as others have said Sunrace. You shouldn’t have to do anything to your frame.
SRAM NX or Sunrace 12 speed should fit on a ‘regular’ HG (MTB) hub. Most other 12 speed cassettes are XD, Microspline or 11/12 speed HG (Road).
It’s a HG freehub, no?
The Sunrace 12 speed HG cassette should fit up then
8-10 Speed Shimano HG Freehubs can use [12 speed Sunrace HG Cassettes](https://sunrace.com/category/products/?product_group=cassette&speed=12-speed&fitting=hg-spline), I run one on my M950 rear hub. There are no Microspline Freehub bodies for converting old XTR or any other Shimano legacy product to work with current Shimano 12 speed cassettes.
Thank you all for the fast and helpful responses!
Had no idea I could just get a 12sp cassette that fits as I assumed the free hub body needed to be wider – thanks again!
