Hi, my name’s Charlotte and come along with me today as I go to the women’s novice cycling session at Derby Arena. Derby Arena currently have an offer on where the sessions are just £12, so I thought why not give it a go. The arena is one of just six indoor drones across the UK. And luckily for me, this one’s just 15 minutes away. It’s safe to say you can’t miss it when driving up. There’s ample parking at both the front and the back of the drrome. You get 3 hours for free. All you have to do is pop your reg in the screen at reception. As someone who hasn’t ridden a bike since I was a teenager, it’s safe to say I was nervous, but I thought why not give it a go as I’m trying to try new things this year. This session was Friday the 5th of September and they’ll be running bi-weekly. It was 5 till 6:00 p.m. So, a 1-hour slot. I went inside during the week and booked it at reception. However, you can also do it via the phone or the website. Once I got parked up, I headed over to reception to put my reg plate in and was told where to go. The staff gave me directions up to the cycle D. This is where we went through all our health and safety with the coach for today, which was Cole. It’s always recommended to get there 20 to 15 minutes prior to the start time, just so all the admin bits can get done before. On a drone track, you wear special cleat shoes, a helmet, and a special drone bike. All of this high was included in the12 pound price which I thought was really good. And here’s me ready to go. Riding at Veladrome is really different to riding on the road as your feet are strapped into the bike. Not only this, your bike doesn’t have brakes, so at first it can be a little daunting. Carl was really good at explaining how the track worked and what we were going to go through today. Everyone at the group was really welcoming and it was great to see riders that had started a few weeks before that had all made really good progress. Being around a lot of other new beginners made it a little less scary. Not only that, one of the regulars there had make some good for us. So that was a really nice treat to come down to at the end. The session was amazing and I’m already booked on to the next one in two weeks time. Hope to see you there.
