My kid wants to start mountain biking, I’ve got him a helmet, does it fit properly? (Last picture) I took a video of him riding his first bike ever, sent it to my mom and she said that the helmet doesn’t look to fit properly. And it does look a bit weird? Just want to make sure he’s safe and good to go! It is a Smith sports optic convoy MIPS, size Small (51-55cm) his head is at 53cm. Thanks

The helmet is too high on his head, so his back of the head is not really protected. Gloves are also a must.
Ps. Depending on what he is going to do, consider at least elbow and knee pads.
Hello! If it looks small, sometimes even if you cut a correct size it ends up looking bad, the helmet on the back must completely penetrate the neck, the coeculus with which it fits must reach almost the limit where the hair ends and the skin begins…
The helmet should fit snug on his head. It has a BOA retention dial on the back to make it as tight as it needs to be and this helmet the way it is, looks just fine to me. Looks to be the right size and fits him properly.
Nope, that’s way too high. No protection on the back of the head at or below the ears.
Helmets all fit a little differently, depending on whether your head is long/wide/tall you might have better luck with one brand or another. If it’s possible it’s best to go somewhere you can try on helmets before you buy ’em.
Is it sitting all the way down on his head? Make sure to back out the clicker in the back to largest, make sure the helmet is sitting way down on his head, and then tighten it up just until it starts to get snug.
He won’t be able to see where he’s going covering his eyes 👀😁
I’ve found the sizing of youth helmets to be useless. We bought my son the same Smith helmet (found it online for an amazing deal) and it looked similar. Bought a Specialized Shuffle which was slightly better but still not great. We’ll be going in store moving forward to find something that actually fits.
Where can a bicycle shop for over 10 years. The helmet is sitting too high. Also looks like it may have taken an impact, time to replace it either way. Helmets that you used pretty regularly should be replaced. Anytime there’s a heavy impact, needs to be replaced. I promise you, not trying to get you to buy products. Trying to get your folks you’re taking care of not enough in a chair like a buddy of mine. Anyway, thank you for doing your due diligence and asking. You’re absolutely awesome for that.
I encourage my riders to wear the helmet just above the eye brows, the ear things just below the ears. the back boa tight enough that the helmet will stay on if you unclip and bend over. this appears to be too small from what I can tell.
Loosen the dial in the back till it’s extra loose and can fit further down on their head. Then snug up the dial.
Also tighten the straps. When the helmet comes off mid-crash you’ll know why.
That helmet is way too small
Looks a little small, the back and sides of his head aren’t protected
Check if the adjustment can be lowered to sit a bit further down on the back of his head. The foam in the top may also be making it sit so high.
He should not cover his face while biking
Way too small and lolol just edit the photo and blur it 😅 having your kid suffocating himself while blind had me laughing
Yeah, I don’t think this fits. Not all helmets fit everyone’s heads. A lot of people can try on helmets and they do go on their head but it doesn’t “fit”. The team I raced for was sponsored by a big brand and they were going to give us top of the line buckets for $50 but I couldn’t get one because it didn’t fit proper.
Heads are all sorts of shape, I would go to a high end bike shop and ask for a hand. They take these things serious and won’t put something on your head just because someone likes the looks of it like some other shops.
