There was a slight leap up here but not onto the final climb fully. There’s Bernal. This is Landa. And they’re 1.2 km from the finish of today’s stage. Bernal gets ready. Jersey pulled down. Can he show off those Colombian colors here? Lander looks around. They’ve still got 112 on group three. And this is that third group here we think in the middle. In fact, no, that’s the second group at 112. So, one kilometer to go. Land Bernard, we have to assume they know. Well, that is the question. And you can see the way they’re starting to ride here. It doesn’t look like that. You know, they’re too nervous about this final being so close inside the final kilometer. I think they’re thinking about this final climb here. And of course, yeah, the cars here, you know, in between the mountains, the valley and that to get the radio contact with your rider sometime, uh, it doesn’t work. So, uh, it will be an interesting one. Hopefully, the two of them do know because, you know, it would be nice to see a fight there for the stage win and just one doesn’t just be on the front when they roll through that point. And what a moment it would be. Bernal only two wins since the accident were those Colombian championships. Mikuel Lander now as it comes uphill. 600 meters to the finish. 16 wins in his career, but nothing for four years as well since he won the Walt Dava Borgos. A look behind here from Lander. Maybe now they do know. Yes, I know. We can see here the way Lander’s looking around with Bernal the wheel. He’s just waiting for this sprint to the line. 62 km from the finish is where Lander took off. It’s going to end 8K from the finish. Ever so slightly uphill to the banner here and Bernal ready to go around him. Lander’s there leading it out. It’s Bernnal who does get around him. Lander is there. Bernnal up here. Bernnal to the line. And it is there. But can Lander come back on him? I don’t think he can. And what a moment for Egan Bernnal. A grand tour stage winner yet again. I Bernnau wins the stage. And that is that. Lander is beaten. Bernau wins in the strangest of situations. There was no big celebration there. You can imagine none of them are happy about how it’s turned out on the road. As I said, all of that is out of their and our hands. But it is victory to I am Bernal once again. And well, no matter where it comes, Sean, it’s a huge moment. Well, it’s a huge moment. And uh you know I know they’d like to go on to the final time and uh you know go to uh the very end of the stage and you could see there the way you know the sprint was with Lander just kicking the sprint off but Bernal much stronger and Bernal winning but you can see there it wasn’t you know like the normal finish and you were looking around as well who what do we do now do we stop it or do we continue on a bit as we can see the rest of the riders just coming in here and yeah for Bernal and Lander they were the two best out of that big breakaway so you Oh, hats off to them. They were the strongest one out of the breakaway of the day. You can see the improvised timing line at the bottom there. By the way, that looks like the finish line. Of course, they rode to the arch cuz that’s what they could see. But yes, this is far from perfect as a sporting contest. I know that we’ve said what we said. The right to protest is of course respected and the most important thing as far as the race is concerned is maintaining the safety and integrity of the riders. They’re trying their best to be organized here Sean. It’s out of their hands to preserve the integrity of the competition as well by putting a line there and announcing a stage winner. But it will be a wonderful win for Benal, but I’m sure a bittersweet one given how it looks there. Yes. Well, we could see how it looks and it will be a bittersweet one for him. is still you know he is going to be uh in the history books as the stage winner and unfortunately for the organizers they have to make those decisions. the safety of the riders of course always you know the priority and uh uh a very good decision there because it has to be done you know pretty urgently they get the news and then they have to decide where are we going to finish here and you know to make the teams aware the riders aware all of that it’s always a difficult one for the organizers but I think at the end of the day the way it worked out here it was the best for all I think overnight there will be more repercussions won’t there will be talk about this there will be more pressure and of course there’ll be questions as to how far they went they might get this year. They were already surfacing in the press yesterday. We will see in the general classification. We’ll have to see what the final time is, but we can expect, I think, there to be changes in the top 10. Certainly, I am Bernal getting very close to it, if not into it. And a brilliant piece of work from Bahrain Victorious, the distanced junior herself and will re make sure that their rider Torren who led the welter for a while will get a place up in ninth. It seems he’s in this group that’s being led by IPT because of the fact that Ricky Tel is riding so well. Start of the day seventh at 453. We know that Phelix Gal’s been in a little bit of bother today. He looks like he could be in trouble and slipping down as well. Started the day in fifth place. And a late mechanical for Yonas Vingor, survived and he after changing onto a teammate’s bike makes it without any time loss to the finish. That was Stewart who dropped back from the breakaway to help Ricko. This is Sle riding as Sleer does. No talk of sitting up or anything like that. He’ll ride in with his teammates if he can to the finish. This is Jorgensson Viny and we wait to see if there are any big differences back to those chasing. You’ll have to bear with us as far as that’s concerned. We like the organizers only just receiving the news and having to improvise a little bit. There’s one kilometer to ride in this group. Pitcock is there and saving his spot nicely on the podium. Hindley Pedi missing from the top 10. The biggest name missing is Felix Galon. And we saw the the genesis of that when he just lost the wheel on that. Well, turns out to be the last climb now. Yes, he was losing on the last climb, but I think he got into the front group and that attack from Petco again. And I think that’s where he got distance because we see you know there’s a lot of gaps between the GC men and uh it’s just not happened from to get back into the front. So he’s going to lose time but all the rest here in the general classification are pretty much here. Of course Junior herself he was out very early. So uh the team of Marian victorious they put the pressure on there and put him in difficulty as well. But yeah, this is a one now where uh there’ll be some riders disappointed with the situation, you know, not going up this climb because this has proved to be a difficult day and we did talk about that earlier on in the studio breakaway as well. They said this is a complicated stage in the final and the interviews pre-race as well. A lot of the riders said, you know, this could be a change in the general classification. We have seen some changes, but nothing major at the very top end. Here they come up to the timing point then just at 8 km to go where the race was supposed to take on the final climb today and in the end they’re across the line and in this group GC times are taken here at this Bua that is becoming increasingly affected by protests. The stage stops with 8 km to go. A pat on the back there for Pitcock from Vingu. Stop here is the message from the organizers, but there will be changes in the general classification. Not all the racing that sports fans would have wanted to see, but plenty of racing. Changes in the GC. A stage winner again for a man who we thought might never even ride a bike again professionally. But the main news from this 16th stage at the well despa order is that protesters protesting the presence of the Israel premier tech team amid the ongoing situation in Gaza have forced an early end to the stage.

  1. Are they going to cancel the rest of the Vuelta? They might as well with these butchered "races". Apparently Spain has no ability to maintain security on the racecourse.

  2. Come on guys , i love cycling but we have an Israeli monster who is out of control killing and starving defenseless citizens by the thousands . And we have the luxury to moan about a bike race finishing early and we can eat and sleep in peace .

  3. You have the right to protest you do not have the right to interfere with an organized event, that has absolutely nothing to do with the cause you are protesting against.

  4. These pro-Palestinian demonstrations are a puppetry scam that only gets in the way, because if they really want to fight for the rights of those at war, why don't they do the same for the civil war in Syria or Yemen, or the conflicts in Sudan or Myanmar? Or even the growing tensions in the Sahel region? These groups organizing these pro-Palestinian demonstrations want to make noise for a cause they don't even understand. It's a disgrace.

  5. Y'all remember the farming protesters at Le Tour? If not, then it is because the police were quite definitive in their handling of them, disincentivizing them from continuing to do those kinds of protests. The only things that used to stop stages from being carried out were extreme weather conditions.

  6. Ah yes, the linguistic dynamo Mr Hatch has again impressed on the uninformed and weary (of his commentary) viewers the importance of protest. So what exactly is disruption, sabotage, danger to pro cyclists etc.?

  7. As long as cycling competitions is executed on public roads it is very difficult to stop this kind of protests. Today it is the present of IPT and of course what Israel does in Gaza. Next time the protest may focus on Ineos because of any wrong doing of the company behind the team or perhaps the focus is set on UAE due to some wrong doing from the state UAE. If teams are named after something else instead of the company/individual/state who financially support the team it may have an impact of the occurrence of protests. Of course, will it be of any interest left if the financial supporters names are being dropped from the team names? This is an rather exclusive issue within pro cycling, teams are named after their financial supporters. Football clubs and other sport clubs rarely change their name when main sponsor is changed. The only times I can recall it has happend is with Red Bull and Ineos, at least in Europe.

  8. Go to Israel and protest. What's the point protesting 2,000 miles away and causing havoc with something that has absolutely nothing to do with the conflict.

  9. Giving in to the protesters just encourages them more. Spanish police need to crack down on them. And maybe any cycling fans on the side of the road should grab those Palestinian flags and bin them.

  10. Who cares about these "results"? The riders should neutralize the rest of the race. Great job Spain and ASO in letting hoodlums ruin a classic tour. You must be proud of yourselves.

  11. If TNT wants to become political can we also get your views on:
    * UK government arresting over Facebook posts.
    * The little girl with the axe.
    * The missing Epstein list.
    * The UK Afghan rape rings.
    * USA meddling in foreign elections, Algeria, Ukraine etc.
    * von der Leyen buying 2.4 billion vaccine doses using SMS, but now "lost" all the "negotiations".
    Damn, I can go on, for ever…

  12. The right to protest? Wrecking a cycling race? It’s nonsense. The ‘protestors’ should be jailed. Their protests have nothing to do with the war going on.
