On a section of my route, cars love to use the bike lane as a passing lane when traffic gets bad. This isn't a case of just trying to turn right at the next intersection, they all want to continue straight through the next light to get to a highway on-ramp. I caught all of these cars following behind for a full block this morning. So I just stopped in the bike lane and forced them all to merge back into traffic where they are supposed to be. It's funny how many middle fingers you get from the people brazenly breaking the law. Will it fix the problem long term? No. But damn, it felt good.

“Bike lanes”  like this are so dumb and useless I’d feel safer taking the lane. Be safe out there.

  2. I’ve got people that will move over into the shoulder when they see me to defend their spot in line at stop signs. I just use the bumpy dirt shoulder and force myself in the #2 position. It’s makes me giggle on my way home every day.

  3. Riding on the sidewalk is not a good option. People do use them then you are forced out onto the street and cars aren’t prepared for you jumping back. Obstacles like light poles, driveways etc., also a risk. Driveways especially! Bike lanes are there for a reason, too bad cars think it’s all for them, it’s not.

  4. Been there, done that. You do that a couple times, the “regular” commuters stay off the bike lane.

They probably think “there’s a crazy guys on bicycle that’ll come yelling later if I drive on bike lane”.

Also don’t pound their car’s hood. That’ll piss them off. But to be fair, bluntly ignoring me yelling “get off the bike lane” and keep chilling on the bike lane scrolling thru tik-tok pisses me off too. One shouldn’t fight fire with fire. But sometimes it’s the only way it’ll work…..

By people who will turn around and say they saw a cyclist fail to stop at a stop sign once therefore bikes should get zero paths of any sort.

For real though, it’s great you have a bike lane in theory but be careful about dinguses plowing through it obliviously…

Lol I immediately thought it was the Bay Area and I think it is. Not sure if you’re South Bay but this is a REGULAR occurrence down here. Kinda reminds me of Brokaw Rd which would check out because that’s a spot I always see this.

  7. Not the smartest idea for your safety. I understand the catharsis, but right or wrong, this is playing with fire.

I don’t recommend people regularly do this.
