Yeeeeeeah, the gallows humor kinda forgets that it’s not about getting killed while cycling that’s terrible, it’s surviving with some permanent damage that makes life a struggle. America is a hard place to be disabled.

You do you but running a brake or at the very least some kind of foot retention might be the difference.

  2. A lot of people will say yes. I ride without them but I mostly ride flat streets in the city that I know well so sudden stops are extremely rare and my speed is usually fairly mid. It’s more about how much control you feel like you have over your bike and your speed, and if you’re likely to run into situations where manual slowing isn’t going to cut it. If I still bombed through the streets in downtown I’d have straps and a front brake for just-in-case situations.

  3. when you live in a city with no bike lanes(only certain spots) cops dont say anything when riding on the sidewalk and the actual bike lanes filled with glass

Oof. Foot retention will make your life so much easier and your bike so much more enjoyable to ride.
