Trying to install rival XPLR axs for my first bike build. (This is the previous gen, so 12 speed. 10-44 in the back and 42T in front.
The chain just looks off in the smallest cog (this is a used chain from a previous bike with the same gear ratio). Yes it’s a SRAM flattop force chain.
It actually shifts fine, but there’s a lot of friction when turning the crank. Doesn’t feel smooth at all.
This is my first time building the bike up for the first time. So struggling at this part. I also am not sure if I installed the RD correctly but following the online guides I put it at the correct orientation on the hanger.

It looks long? Does the other bike have the same length chain stays? If they are longer the chain could still be too long.
Have you mounted the tab of the b tension seat on the tab of the derailleur hanger correctly?
Have you tried adjusting the b-screw? If the chain is from a different bike it could be too long.
Chain is too long.
chain needs a link or two taken out but make sure b-screw is set properly also. the resistance could be a lot of different things – looks like your brake caliper is rubber banded on backwards so who knows 🤷 stiffness or resistance I would usually first guess is bb or free hub/axle related
Looks fine to me.
