I'm interested in one of these two:

From as objective a viewpoint as possible, how would you decide between them? As in, driving the decision by their respective spec as much as possible.

And ignoring the drops – one bike comes with aero drops, and other cheaper model with ergo drops. Let's assume I would be swapping the ergo drops for aero drops – leaving the costs only marginally different.

I think this boils down to SRAM Force vs Shimano Ultegra, and DT Swiss vs Zipp wheels. Any body with experience of both in either case would be really helpful.

Also one bike is a hundred grams or so lighter than the other – almost unnoticeable to someone like me.

Finding it very hard to make an objective decision, and subjectively I like the look of them all.

Any help?

TIA

  1. I previously owned a Canyon Aeroad 2022 with SRAM Rival AXS Etap, since April own a Canyon Aeroad 2025 with Shimano Ultegra Di2. I really disliked the braking performance of the Rival group (also rotors were always rubbing the brake pads when standing out of the saddle) as wells as chain drops every now and then.

Now that I have Ultegra I’m so glad I bought this one. I haven’t ridden on a bike with the newer SRAM groupsets (I believe with improved braking), so I can’t comment on that, but if in the future I would consider SRAM again I would make sure to do some testrides first before buying, while with Shimano I would happily buy a new bike without any testing.

  2. Test ride them if possible and see what you like. In terms of quality, there should not be too much inbetween those groupsets.
I personally dislike Shimano ergonomics so much, i would not buy a bike with a Shimano groupset these days. It really just comes down to what you like more.

As for the wheels, also see what you like more when testriding.

And if you still can’t decide, maybe you have to go by color 😉

  3. I have the Rival eTap. I will get Shimano next time. I’ve had too many chain drops that chewed up my frame around the BB.

I like SRAMs batteries and the shift logic (left is up, right is down, together it’s the FD).
