Looking for some new handlebars with slightly less reach and drop than what I'm currently using. Came across these Whisky no. 9 carbon bars on sale for 30% off ($144 USd). Current bars have 12° of flare and I really like how the hoods aren't bent in at a goofy angle. These have 24°. Is it possible to have my hoods oriented pretty vertical and in line front to back with 24° of flare? Or will they inherently be turned inwards?

It is pretty straightforward, if you don’t see a vertical section in the hooks then it is going to be angled. Most flared bars have the hoods angled with the flare. I did see one that has the hoods vertical while having flared drops but it is a rarity
No direct experience, but if people can angle the hoods in on bars with no flare than I think you can keep them straight on bars that do have flare. Pretty sure you’ll be fine.
Get a flat bar
I have these bars in the alloy version.
You could run the shifters straight but there is a good amount of inward tilt that you won’t be able to get rid of.
The brake levers generally need to be in line with the drops, so you can brake. So yes, flared bars get flared hoods.
Hence the name
Some more than others. 3T Superghia (or whatever) might be worth looking into but they are expensive. I bought some bars from Tantan that have minimal flare at the hoods.
Depending on the riding you’re doing you might want less or more flares. More flares give you a wider platform for chunkier routes & descending. If you’re riding smoother stuff a 12deg flare is pretty solid, but more can be helpful.
Check out specs on the Salsa Cowbell vs CowChipper vs Woodchipper. More or less same bar with variety of flares for different riding styles.
Good luck!
I went from 44cm 12° flare to 24° flare 41cm redshift kitchen sink and I love them but yes the inward tilt isn’t ideal for my preference. I would like to try the low flare option.
Also whiskey spano is prob what you want. Progressive flare in carbon but not cheap.
I do
The Whiskey Spano gives you flare without the horrid angled hoods/lever bodies.
I have [these](https://whiskyparts.co/handlebars/spano-drop-handlebar) I think the same as what you added int eh picture. I got them for the same reason as you, less reach, the flair is minimal, and the hoods are not goofy looking.
if you truly do not want any flair look at dedicated road bike bars
Zipp SL-70 xplr fit the bill too.
UPDATE: these same bars also come in 12° flare. Same price from the same website. So I’m going to buy them. I’ll leave this post up just in case anyone in the future has a similar question. Also, I don’t know how you guys ride with your hoods turned in at 45° angles haha. I guess you get used to it.
