A Sunday ride out to North Yorkshire’s Catterick Garrison the home of the British Army in the North of England to visit the Nepalese Soldiers that proudly serve in the British Army, the Gurkhas!
The Gurkhas played a vital role in the 1982 Falklands War.
A ride around the Garrison Town on my Suzuki VStrom 650 with chatty commentary, proud of all those that serve us.
God Save the King!

Right folks, I’ve brought you down to uh North Yorkshire today. I have indeed Katrick Garrison, which we’re going to have a look around. As a lad, I always wanted to be a a soldier or something or a policeman, which I was um you know, and u siesta. Look at that. It looks like a ripoff of Costa, doesn’t it? Really? But anyway, welcome along to Patrick Garrison. You know you’re here when you see this sign. It’s coming up on the left there. That one. Welcome to Captain Garrison, home of the uh British Army in the north. The Girkas are here as well. And um you normally see groups of girkers walking around. Um the young lads, they look like uh they’ve just got out of school. And uh when they’re walking around uh they’re not in uniform or they don’t appear to be in uniform, but they do appear to be in some sort of civilian type of uniform, you know, like I would say like um school uh clothes like the school jumper and the the gray trousers and what have you. Always looking smart as well. They really really are. But uh there we go. Right around this mini one. N to the guy there. There we go. Nice bike. Right. Yep. Catholic garrison, home of the British Army in the north as it says. Oh, this place on the left is a depot and it’s usually full of military vehicles and the ancillaries, you know, like the trailers and that. You see some trailers down there. Can you see them? Look at them. And the big trucks. Look at the army trucks. Wow. How good is that? That’s absolutely fantastic. Going to buzz past uh pasta. Yeah. And have a look at these trucks and them Land Rovers. I’d love one of them Land Rovers, mate. Oh, I would. And I’ll tell you what, if I ever won the lottery and I could uh I could get anything, I’d get um look at them Land Rovers. Oh, galore. Absolutely brilliant. That must be um a vehicle depot. When um the uh the fair comes, you know, it comes in heart around about August uh time and it uh when it comes to Cat, it comes on that site there on the right. So, I’ll go by you and I’ll turn around. and we’ll come back into the garrison cuz I think I’m heading out the garrison now. Anyway, that’s a site there that I’m going past there with the military vehicles on the right. The site on the left is where the uh the fair comes uh the same fair that comes to uh comes to Hartley. But look at them. Captain Garrison. It’s in the years that I’ve been visiting it’s certainly changed a lot. Um these shops have always been here. Uh they have indeed laundererets and the boogeies and uh circle shops as well. Ger restaurant there takeaway but um there’s a lot of development going on in Katrick Garrison. You know they’ve got top shops and I’ve heard they’ve got a cinema now. We’ll uh try and find that. I think it’ll be where Tesco’s is big Tesco is and the other shops and what have you. Yeah, you can see the um the fences that they’ve got round everywhere. It’s obviously uh military land and although the civilians the other side of the fence as well like children and what have you um they still like to keep the kids of the uh servicemen and women and uh safe. You know what I mean? They do indeed. But uh yeah, look at the barb wire on them fences there off to the left. Big long fence there. Bar wire on the top of it. Look at that impressive building there. I’m sure this used to be the police station uh that we’re looking at here on the right. I’m sure it was. But anyway, we uh turn left. I think we’ll go uh No, we’ll continue. I We’ll have a look left at this roundabout here. And uh cuz uh cuz right, I think that’s um that’s down towards all the supermarkets and everything like that is indeed, which I’ll show you. So, we’re coming on to uh I think this is Gir territory now. This is where they come and do the basic training up this way. I’m sure it is. And uh I watched a thing uh not so long back, a couple of weeks back on um YouTube about um them coming over training here, the Girkas, and uh what they have to go through um to even get uh thought about for a place. Uh Lewis Bar up there. There’s a bar up there. How good is that? Yeah, the um the entry uh level is uh quite high. And oh, there’s some there’s some girkers as uh as we said. Look, coming up ahead. I won’t bother them. I won’t stop or anything like that. But aren’t they smart? Look at them. I’ll give them a uh give them a wave. See if they want to uh want to wave. There you go. See how nice are they? Absolutely wonderful people. And you know when um when we say our country is full and everything like that and um we don’t want to take uh migrants and everything like that. I would agree to taking each and every one of the girkers and their families if they finish the service to give them the choice going past that. Look at that. That’s an entrance to one of the uh one of the bases probably where the girkers are staying what have you. And um there’s some more troops I think over there. You all right? Uh, some more troops over there as well. All from all around the world. So, they come and join the British army. How good is that? And I think the Girka training ground is either there on the right or here on the left. We’ll just have a buzz uh down here on the left. And just have a have a quick uh turn around and what have you. Pass some more girkers. How good is this? I’ll um just turn around here. I don’t want to bother anybody and what have you, you know. Absolutely brilliant, isn’t it? Absolutely fantastic this. It really, really is. Obviously, they’ll be um writing me number down and everything like that uh down here. But, uh the Girkas, we’ve seen them. That’s absolutely fantastic, isn’t it? Um we’ll go left up here and uh we’ll probably turn around further up the road and uh come back on ourselves. Just a nice uh look around uh the base and what have you. Some more trucks there. Look at them. Absolutely brilliant, aren’t they? Absolutely fantastic. They really, really are. Ah, Patrick Garrison. You know, I I imagine being a garrison, you should expect like um uniforms walking about and um tanks passing you by and everything like that. I don’t know what I think a garrison is like, but uh certainly that. Let’s have a um we’ll have a Should we go up here and see what’s uh what’s up this place? Vinnie Barracks. No, it looks like an entrance. We don’t want to bother them, do we? No. But it’s an entie barracks there. But uh that’s obviously where the um where the Girkas are housed and based and stay and everything like that. But walk around. They’re very very smart individuals, aren’t they? They are indeed. Pass them young uh young troops there. Gate House. It’s a nice little motor. Scoten Park Road. More Girkas on the right. They’re very respectful people, aren’t they? I mean, coming over here and fighting for the British Army. And do they fight? Oh, yes indeed. I’m I’m sure they went to the Falcons as well, didn’t they? Off that. They did. There’s some more uh some more girkers over there. Another uh another wave. Oh, he’s not interested. Never mind. You know, they going back. They look as if they had a out. But yeah, walking around the garrison, the freedoms that they have joining the British army like that. Hey, more housing down there. Look at that. Wow. The houses are massive really, aren’t they? Well, that’s the least you can do when um when they potentially could go to war. And in this current climate, it worries you, doesn’t it? It does indeed. Yeah. And this is another barracks here on the left. I’ll um I’ll go down this road and we’ll have a look uh down here. You might as well just uh see what’s about. Hopefully not uh not catch the rain. Well, catching a little bit of it now. It’s getting a little bit uh wet, isn’t it? A little bit uh rainy, drizzly. Wow. How good is this? And there we go. What’s that? Um, welcome to Alma Lines, the Royal Yorkshire Reg, the First Battalion. Absolutely brilliant. Wow. How good is that? Cuz we’re in Yorkshire, you see. So, I’m just going to turn around here. Nonp passolders, passholders. I’ll just uh I’ll just turn around. I will indeed. All right. It’s not going to bother them. There you go. I wonder if the uh if guard duty is a good thing to have or uh to do or it’s a I can imagine it’s quite boring just seeing cars in and out and everything like that. But it’s part of the duties. That’s uh that’s right, isn’t it? Part of the duties of uh the British Army. That’s absolutely fantastic. and the Capri Garrison. Lots of walkways around this area. Like I say, the Yorkshire Regiment there, the Royal Yorkshire Regiment here at Patrick Garrison. Wow. Right. I’ll show you around uh the civilian area of the shops areas and uh see if the new cinemas all built and everything. Been a long time since I was down here. Katrick Garrison isn’t a place where you like come to unless you’re um very much a sad like me uh really. Do you know what I mean? And you’re just having a nose about. Wonder where that road goes though. But uh we’ll stick with this road. Wow. Can imagine lots of these buildings being like World War II era, can’t you? You know, built well built before that anyway, but um you know, used predominantly in World War II. That building looks like some sort of control area and uh well fortified, you know, with um brick effiges in front of the doors. So, you know, if an explosion does go off or something like that, you’re protected in there doesn’t splash back. But we’ll go to the shop area now. I’ll show you around Tesco’s and uh whatever they have. There’s a there’s a day out for you. Going to show down to Cat Garrison to show you Tesco. But anyway, let’s have a look. The shopping center here is on the left. So, I think this is a shopping and center area uh for everybody, civilians and troops and everything. And like I say, we’ll have a good nose around it. Why not? And a Seavoy Cinemas there in front. We’ll pull into this car park and run through the car park and come out the top end. Costa Coffee on the right. McDonald’s Farm Foods, Peacocks, Card Factory, Surplus Shop, Drop. Absolutely. Well, necessary here, is it? Because a lot of the troops buy their own kits, don’t they? They do. Yeah. Uh, William Hill, the Bokeis, you got Hayes Travel and a Gregs. Yes. It wouldn’t be a Garrison without a Gregs, would it? Wouldn’t be an area without a Gregs, really, is it? Would it? Yeah. There you go. Entertainment Exchange as well. We buy.com. Busy Tesco’s this one as Oh, look at that bike. Two lovely bikes in the uh parking bay over there. Yeah, I’ll let this blow cross cuz I’ll I’ll have a look at the bikes. Scarlet. Yeah. Absolutely fantastic. Look at them. Wow. Going back towards the Seavoy now. The Seavoi sounds like a hotel, doesn’t it? So, I’m sounding like tour guide Barbie again. Are there we go? A leisure center. Massive. Absolutely massive place that one. Look at it. Absolutely massive. Really, really is. Wow. And uh the Seavoy Cinemas, Domino’s Pizza there. Mike has a one in Artapole. He does indeed. Mike Reyes Costa Holland and Barrett. We’ll have a look on this cuz I’ve never seen this before. I’ve never been here. Oh, there’s a pub there. The Fox Glove. The Fox Glove. Wonder if that’s like Do you know what? They haven’t got a weather spoon, are you? That would go down an absolute uh treat, wouldn’t it? I was going to say something else then, but not on a garrison, but go down an absolute treat. Weather spoons are here. Could you imagine how busy it’ll be? Wow. Absolutely. All the families down here, the young troops with a little bit of money to spend doing a cracking job as well. Premier in. That’s what that big building is. look a premier in. I bet that gets uh busy with the uh families of the troops down here when they come to see them passing out and everything like that, you know, proud as punch. Could you imagine that? And um I’ve got a friend, well uh Jane who’s a friend of Louise has grew up Louise and everything on the same estate and everything like that. Um I believe her daughter’s in the RAF. Could you imagine how proud you would be having a son or a daughter in the RAF? Absolutely fantastic. British Army or or the Navy, whatever it is. Police anywhere. Fire service, NHS. Pass the police office. Just smile. Smile. All right. I’ve got a police station beach headlines. So, I thought I’d give you a little bit of a walk to where I’ve seen these military vehicles, which are absolutely brilliant. your bikes there to wide road this one. Got to be careful on here. I don’t want to be legging it across the road and embarrassing myself running like an absolute twit. But there we go. How good is that? That’s absolutely fantastic, isn’t it? Look at them. Wow. Fuel tanker there. Looks like a fuel tanker. All the trucks, the wagons. I wonder what license you need to drive one of them. The big waggy type trucks. It’s not an articulated license, but I think goes on weight as well now, doesn’t it? I’ve got me grandar rights, but I don’t know how that affects things. But anyway, hope you’ve enjoyed the look around Patrick Garrison. Fantastic, eh? How good was that?
