Long shot but worth a try. Would be a perfect scenario where the Internet makes good stuff happen.

My friend who is a football commentator here in Norway lost a bet and is now cycling from Oslo to Nottingham via Germany and The Netherlands. When he crossed the border into Netherlands his Garmin didn't show maps anymore, so he's now following a breadcrumb trail and seems to easily get off track and potentially lost.

I figured I'd try to help by checking if someone along the route could meet up with him, with a computer so his Garmin can have maps for The Netherlands and UK imported.

He is currently riding from Zwolle towards Hoek van Holland to catch the night ferry over to the UK. He will pass through Amsterdam and Haag later this afternoon.

He's also doing a daily podcast together with former pro rider Carl Fredrik Hagen, so if someone where to be able to help, that person would be a perfect guest for tonight's episode. That will be recorded when Eivind arrives at Hoek van Holland I guess.

Thanks!

He just needs a gpx map. You can get them from Garmin or plenty of third party sites. Garmin also has the map plus subscription now (instead of buying new maps for different places). That might be the easiest way to just sign up and send them to the device. But it all depends on what device they have too.

  2. With any luck, the map is there but not activated. Try this (lifted from the Garmin website)

If this does not work, here is the link that will tell you how to download and install maps: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=g9PbvR7queA7AoYCEZF5v8

Power on your Edge and open the Menu.

    Select Activity Profiles.

Some Edge models require you to select Settings first.

    Select an Activity Profile.

    Select Navigation.

    Select Map.

Select Map Information or Configure Maps.

Select a listed map to enable or disable it for that activity profile.

  3. FYI: It’s “Den Haag” not “Haag”

also, between Leiden and Den Haag, it will be much nicer to either head to the dunes (via Katwijk) or to follow the Rijn – Schie canal AKA vliet kanaal

For cycling in rhe Netherlands all you need is the ANWB app on your phone.
The whole of the country is easily navigated using numbered ‘nodes’ or junction points. We’re currently on our second trip cycle touring here and it’s simplicity itself.
