This bike has spent the last few years shut away for one reason and another. It was generously given to me by a friend, and I love the way it looks, but was never able to get it to ride quite how I wanted. After getting more interested in the bike building/customising world online the past few months, I decided this old bike would be a good place to start with learning to do things myself.
My overall aim is to turn this into a single-speed commuter/run-around type bike. I never really cycle off-road, and live in a fairly flat city, so the simplicity of a single-speed really appeals to me. I'd like to change the stem and bars to something more swept back, and swap the seat out for something a little more comfortable. It could also definitely do with a new set of wheels. The last picture is pretty close to what I have in mind – not a single-speed, but you get the idea.
As a total beginner, I would really appreciate some advice from anyone who has undertaken a similar project. Does this sound do-able? What would be the best place to start? Any tips or pointers would be super appreciated.
