Is this something that I can fix or get a replacement part for? It's a cheap 16' Huffy from Walmart. I can't quite tell what happened. Did the bearings work themselves loose or did something fall off? I'm pretty handy and could replace the pieces if they are replaceable. The shape of the bearings make me think they were press fit maybe?
I've noticed the pedals getting loose and last time my daughter rode it the chain fell off. That's when I noticed it was really bad.

Bit of grease then tighten it.
It can be done at home, but you should take the opportunity to grease the bearings and make sure all the balls are accounted for. If you take it to a shop (recommended), it won’t be an expensive fix.

The flat washer looking piece with 2 slots in it is what needs to be tightened first then the hex nut second. Look up park tool 1 piece crank set removal on YouTube
