A trip to Paris is always a good idea. However, there are some mistakes that you definitely want to avoid. With this list of mistakes, we’re going to keep it simple, safe, and stress-free for you so you know what to do when you get here to Paris. Hi, I’m Jordan. And I’m Erica. And we’re your guides abroad. [Music] Mistake is thinking you can only come to Paris during the summer. It is lovely here at Christmas time or in the shoulder seasons. I mean, look, the Home Alone family is planning on coming out here for Christmas until Kevin messed everything up. So, consider different times of year to visit. [Music] I was just sitting here thinking like how crazy we’re just sitting in a cafe in Paris that has been here for over a hundred years that so many famous people have frequented. What a life. It is pretty lovely. This is really nice. It is really nice. And that’s the mistake. How’s your like that transition? But she was just literally thinking about it. It really was. I mean Henry Miller’s been here. Ernest Hemingway, Scott Fitzgerald, Matise, Picasso. Anyways, our point of this one is the mistake is not taking time to just sit and savor. A lot of people come to Paris maybe only for 2 or 3 days and they rush around like crazy trying to do like all the big bucket list items. Make sure to just like chill out, go to a park, relax. We have a video on sit and savor locations around Paris cuz it’s just such a lovely place to just chill out, have a glass of wine at favorite at one of the cafes. Enjoy yourself. Enjoy. All right, let’s relax. All right, time to go. Done. [Music] All right, let’s talk about pulling out money and mistakes that you can make. One of the mistakes is going to an overpriced ATM. We always find that banks ATMs offer better fees when you’re pulling out money. Also, when you are selecting, they’ll give you the option to pull out your money in euros or in your home currency. We find that we get a better exchange rate when we select euros and let our own bank handle the conversion. Okay, we’re gonna have some fun with these. These are mistakes that we hear other people say, but we don’t necessarily agree with. Number one is a mistake is to stay in the seventh RND month. We like the seventh. We get why people say don’t stay there because there’s not a metro station nearby. It takes longer to walk to things and be touristy next to the Eiffel Tower, but we love like waking up, walking out on the street and looking up and seeing the Eiffel Tower there through like the cross streets. and we find it a lovely great place to stay. Number two is saying that you must go to Versailles. We love Versailles. It’s wonderful to go to, but if you only have two or three days in Paris, you should probably spend your time in Paris enjoying that time. And number three, the mistake is visiting during the peak season. That’s like June, July, and August when it’s like really busy in Paris. And you know what we say? Visit when you can. Sure, the city’s really busy with lots of tourists, but it’s a lively place. The weather is great, and you’ll find lots of great stuff to do. Anyways, those are kind of like our mistakes that we don’t feel like are mistakes. Anyways, let’s go on. A big mistake is not doing a unique Paris tour when you’re in Paris, right? Like right now, I’m a food tour having a crepe. So, like my kids love Nutella crepes, of course. But the tour guide shared with us like the four types of Parisian crepes or the crepes that people get in France, right? Anyways, do a croissant making tour, do a bakery tour, do a bike tour, a wine tasting tour. There’s so many cool tours to do in Paris that you really shouldn’t miss out. This tour is good for foodies. It’s good crepe. Really [Music] good. Here’s another mistake for you is thinking that Parisians are rude. We find them extremely kind, considerate. They’re helping us with our French. They’re welcoming, playing with their kids. Anyways, they’re like all humans. They’re really nice. But a secret word that really helps in Paris is to say bonjour. Greet every conversation, every person. Start every conversation. Greet people with bonjour and they’ll open up a lot more to you. Just like saying hi when you’re back home. I want to remark that you have two very, very well behaved and beautiful. Thank you very much. Appreciate that. One big mistake is not getting our Paris wayfinder itinerary. We worked with a local guide to craft five perfect days out. taking you to the best sites, eating at the best places, all with clickand go directions, plus an audio guide, plus a video guide, plus a transport guide. We’ve packed this full of information to make your trip planning very simple. Check it out at yourguidesabroad.com/ itineraries. It is a mistake to not take public transport. We find it clean, cost effective, easy, fast, everything. Now, we love to walk around and enjoy the streets and see the beauty, but if we’re trying to get somewhere, don’t be scared of public transportation. Hop on that metro or take that bus. Oh, our train’s here. Thinking you can use a T plus ticket to go to the airports or to go to Versailles. Those are for in Paris city center only. And if you are planning to go to either one of the airports or Versailles, you’re going to need a separate ticket. It is very convenient to get where Orley you can get it from any one of these many wonderful machines. But just don’t get on the metro here thinking you can use a T plus ticket. And if you have any questions about public transportation or getting around Paris, we cover it all in our transportation guide which is included with our Paris itinerary. So go to yourguidesabroad.com/itinaries to check it out. Oh, it’s so good. Another mistake is not carrying cash on you or coins. Sometimes you still need them in Paris. As cashless, yes, your credit card will work most places, but for toilets like this one, like farmers markets, crepe stands, places like that. It’s still nice to have cash and some coins on you. Cash is king still in Paris. Well, not really, but it’s very helpful to have with you. All right. All right. On to another one. Let’s go. Not booking early. One of our mottos is book early. So, you got to make sure you hand a pair, especially during those peak summer months. You got to book early. Look, like a month in advance for some of those big bucketless items like going up to the top of the Eiffel Tower, the Pantheon, getting that panoramic view from the top, the catacombs, all those ones that book up early. You got to book those early. Beat the [Music] crowds. Mistake is not taking time to enjoy that Paris cafe culture. Make sure you have time to relax, people watch, sit out on the terrace. Even during the winter, they give you blankets. It’s well worth it. That’s one of my favorite parts of Paris. It’s like London pub culture, but Paris cafe culture, it’s my favorite. The mistake is getting tricked on transport. Make sure you get into official taxi. So, when you’re at the train station or at the airport, go out to the taxi ranks. Also too, from a train station, it is always the meter. You’re always going to have to use the meter when you get there. Don’t let them wave like a piece of paper in your face about a fixed rate. But from an airport like Charles de Gaul or right now we’re at Orley, it is a fixed rate to Paris which is really nice. So just head out the door like here. They advertise it as 32A. The taxi ranks outside and it’ll be a fixed rate all the way to Paris and then you won’t be ripped off. And there’s a different fixed rate for the left bank or the right bank. That is okay. I don’t think it’s a mistake to go up to the top of the Eiffel Tower for a view. I think it’s actually great. But I do think it’s a mistake to not try one of the other viewpoints around the city to get a view of the Eiffel Tower. So we are at Mont Parnass Tower and honestly I think this is the best view. You can also go to Galleries Lafayette or Sakraur to get a beautiful view. But man, this one I got to say it’s my favorite view when you are not on the Eiffel Tower. [Music] A mistake is not knowing that you can order tap water. Now, I love a good sparkling water, but sometimes you just want a little tap water. You can ask for a craft. Clearly, I don’t speak French and I don’t have a good accent. They always know what I mean. A mistake we made the first like five times we came to Paris is only visiting popular landmarks like Notream behind me. I don’t blame you if you want to visit Notream and the Eiffel Tower and some of these amazing things. Ooh, the Pantheon, the Louv. Paris has so many wonderful places to visit, but but we love traveling, mixing bucket list experiences with more local flavor and taking the time to like sit and relax and savor, go to a cafe or a beastro. So, make sure your trip itinerary is varied. And speaking of your trip itinerary, we combined these bucket list items and local classics in our Paris Wayfinder itinerary. We worked with the local guide to get the history right and make sure we could provide you with some spectacular days out in Paris. So, these days are all planned for you. Click and go on the route with directions and you’re ready to go. See the best sites, eat at the best places, plus comes with a transport guide, a video guide, and an audio guide. It is so good. So, if you want to check that out, head to yourguidesabroad.com/itineries and it’ll be there for you. Enjoy your trip to Paris. [Music]
