As said in the title, I completed my very first 50 mile ride on my Domane! It’s an AL 2 and not particularly fancy; I know it’s an entry level road bike but I love it to death! I call her Ms. Roadrunner, as there is a Roadrunner that lives on the trail I frequent.

She’s got a Shimano Claris rim brake gear set which I’m beginning to understand is a pretty basic setup on the scale of what’s out there. It seems like a large chunk of the cost of a bike is in the gear set. I don’t have enough $$$ to upgrade to an entirely new bike, but it’s looking like a good rim brake sets can be had for much much less than a brand new bike.

I’ve been learning to do my own maintenance and upkeep on my bike so I’m not afraid of taking it apart and working with tools n such.

Question: If I could source a 105 rim brake gear set or something comparable, could I swap them out on this frame? I’m imagining it would have a noticeable effect on the performance from myself and the bike.

Theres not really a noticable difference in preformance at all. The 105 will be lighter and will have more gears. Thast basically it, other than that its very minimal. Bike is perfectly fine as is. If you want to upgrade something the most (and imho only) sensible upgrade is getting some nice new tires.
