I am trying to fit an old man mountain rack to my wife’s new Waltly made bike. The fork has the eyelets facing backwards and it has a ridge that makes fitting the pucks hard and they don’t sit nicely anyway (or look good IMO). Is there any reason why fabricating/sourcing a mount from somewhere else to connect it to the eyelet on the fork crown is a bad idea? There are central mount holes in the deck of the rack to fix to.

It’s designed to be stable by fitting onto the fork mounts only. No need to bolt through the fork crown.
Different rack but like this:

the bracket can be bent into the shape you need
A lot of racks come with a angle bracket that can be bent to the correct angle. Your bike shop may have a bin of them. Google for rack mounting bracket brake bridge.
i used a Roberts front axle kit and attached to the fork cage mounts.
